Thanks for sharing your story with us Gina. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
One night I was having a girls night, and the topic of underwear came up. We all realized we shop at one place for underwear – something we wear and need every day. We also realized we weren’t really satisfied with the available designs nor the limitations of other alternative underwear brands.
We wanted a different place to shop for beautiful, yet affordable undies, but we didn’t know where to start. We also knew that we hated making a trip to the mall just to get new undies. That’s when the idea of conveniently delivered, gorgeous yet affordable undies came to mind. Basics don’t have to be boring, and necessities should be delivered!
I soon pitched the idea to my friend Shirley Wong, who I met back in our sorority years in college at UCSB. She was excited about the idea and wanting to start a business of her own herself, she came on board, and that’s when we founded what is now known as Beau Undies.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I’ve never heard of a smooth road to success, and ours is no exception. We were just two young post-grad females in Los Angeles on a mission to start something we really believed in and was passionate about. We literally started from square one. We took it upon ourselves to learn how to sew undergarments ourselves so that we knew what was involved, spent countless hours researching factories, fabrics, and designs, and with limited funds we spent more time on doing labor and marketing ourselves to keep the business up and going.
Beau Undies – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Beau Undies is a subscription-based service for women’s underwear with a mission to serve and empower women while giving back to women in need. We offer 2-pair and 4 pair monthly options and also offer one-time sale products such as bralettes and gifts as well. We aim to provide women with the most hottest style at prices they can afford and help the modern woman save time by conveniently delivering basic necessities.
Beau Undies also has a goal to help women in need and has utilized social media as a way of giving back. For every time someone uses the hashtag #SubscriptionOnAMission, we donate a pair to a woman in need usually at local shelters and organizations.
I am most proud of creating a brand that not only has a mission to give back and help those in need, but also help women really feel their best. The expectation for women to look perfect and be a certain size and shape is really something I personally struggled with and know so many other women who do as well. I wanted to create a brand that would help women love themselves, and Beau Undies are made to do just that!
Nothing makes you feel hotter and more confident than beautiful undies, and we’re proud of being a brand that is made by and created for women.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
When we launched, we set goals for the number of subscribers we wanted to hit each month and by the end of the first business year. As the year for our business year comes closer, we are now inching towards hitting those goals, and it’s looking really good. There is not a single moment I am most proud of, but I am really proud of the whole journey thus far.
That two ladies came together with limited funds, found ways to work together without sacrificing our friendship, created amazing products, and grew a community of women that truly stand behind our brand and are really enjoying the undies we dreamed up into reality. We have a limited number of women on the team helping out, but we are really putting in 110% hustle every day and looking back now, it’s really amazing to see the fruits of our labor.
