Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley and Bryan Wilson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Buckskin Vintage was cultivated through a vision to share quality clothing and the love of heritage brands as well as bringing those interests into the present through our shared love for photography.
Foraging the USA to find those one of a kind treasured pieces that embody our philosophy is what drives us. We started on Etsy in 2014 thinking this would just be a hobby. Soon after, we were picked up by Iron and Resin to offer our curated Vintage in their store. A friendship formed where we collaborated on many projects and we continue to curate for all three brick and mortar stores and online with Iron and Resin.
Buckskin Vintage is available online at www.buckskinvintage.com as well as in other stores such as Summer Camp in Ojai, California and Findings Market in Ventura, California. You can find us during the Holidays at local Pop-up events too!
Has it been a smooth road?
Smooths roads are boring. Finding Vintage is not easy staying dedicated and persevering is important when looking for items 50+ years old. Taking a long way presents more adventure, prettier places and hidden treasures that a smooth road passes by.
Embracing the struggle and remaining creative through those tough times makes the pay off that much more rewarding. Having a brand like Iron and Resin support our mission from the start in 2014 made a huge impact on us being able to continue doing what we love.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Buckskin Vintage story. Tell us more about the business.
Buckskin Vintage thrives to keep a Native State of mind. That includes the love of adventure, following your passion, and self-exploration. We believe our brand embodies that spirit through the travels we take throughout the USA to shop everywhere we can from peoples closets to old run down buildings.
Our signature pieces range from Western wear, denim, workwear and floral as well as custom-made items. We specialize in embroidery and repairing Vintage from decades passed. We take pride in Made in the USA items that supported those who made it and that respected quality craftsmanship. We feel our current garment industry has moved away from that and we are here to offer a different perspective.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We hope our industry continues to move towards the philosophy we hold true. That respecting workers with a living wage as well as providing quality pieces for the consumer becomes more prevalent. Some brands are currently moving in this direction, we respect them for that.
The fashion industry has been inspired by Vintage and many brands are revisiting timeless silhouettes. Over our five years of experience, we have watched the industry shift and noticed the change in our buyers and the appreciation of the quality, time and hard work Vintage buying entails.
