Today we’d like to introduce you to Tracie Radford.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always had a passion for doing hair. As a child, I would do anyone that would allow me Hair. My grandmother was a stylist and salon owner. I believe that’s where my love for it is rooted. I didn’t immediately go to school for cosmetology I first worked in the corporate world as an administrative assistant, but even then I found myself bringing hair styling tools to work and doing actual haircuts in the bathroom on my lunch break and gathering at coworker’s homes after work on Friday evenings styling their hair. Realizing this is obviously my passion I decided to go to cosmetology school.
After becoming a licensed cosmetologist, I opened my home based salon Make It Happen Salon in Moreno Valley CA where I operated the business for over 20 years servicing thousands of satisfied clients. When one of my long-time clients started experiencing hair loss I did was I was taught in cosmetology school and that was to refer her to a dermatologist for help. After several doctors’ visits and using prescription drugs on her scalp that wasn’t helping her I decided I needed to find a solution to my clients increasing hair loss problem.
I began to search the internet and in my search for things related to hair loss I came across the term Trichology which I’d remembered reading maybe a sentence or two about in cosmetology school. As I dug deeper, I discovered what Trichology was and what a Trichologist did and that this was exactly who my client needed to see. After doing further research, I found out not all Trichologist have equal training. That my client would be best served by seeing a Certified Trichologist which I was not able to find.
With that realization and my client continuing to experience hair loss I decided to go back to school and become a Certified Trichologist. I just could not sit ideally by and watch my client go bald and not assist her. I trained with one of the leaders in the Hair Loss Industry David Salinger out of Sydney Australia. David developed the curriculum for Trichology at USC in the 70s.
After completing my course and passing my exam, I became 1 of 2 IAT Certified Trichologist in all of California. I then opened up my first Clinical Salon where I service men, women, and children with hair loss and scalp problems. I am happy to say that I’ve been able to help many satisfied clients with their hair loss and scalp problems.
Has it been a smooth road?
I wouldn’t say it’s been a smooth road. There were challenges along the way, but I was always committed to my calling, purpose, and passion so as challenges arose whether it was a decline in clientele due to the economy shift or not qualifying for the working capital needed or finding the right location to operate my business I always pushed through. My faith has been my saving grace. I believe things happen for a reason. How you walk through the challenge will make the difference.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Make It Happen Hair Loss Clinic and Salon – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
One thing that sets me apart is that I am 1 of only 2 IAT Certified Trichologist in California. Not all Trichologist are Certified, so I’m very proud of that. In my practice, I provide comprehensive consultation, health analysis, and Trico Scope analysis.
The goal is to discover the root cause of the client’s hair loss or scalp problem. After the root cause of the problem is discovered a treatment plan is designed. The plan may require in clinic treatment or at home treatment. If there is a need for something that is out of my scope of practice, I partner with the appropriate specialist.
What I’m most proud of is the success I’ve had with a 6-year-old little girl that had suddenly lost about 30% of her hair. Her parents had taken her to the doctor, and they’d said there is nothing we can do for her and sent her home. I’m so glad her parents didn’t accept that and sought out to find another answer. The little girl has been in treatment now for several months and is getting great results. Seeing the smile on her face is what I’m most proud of.
What I’m known for is my attention to customer service. Great customer service is very important to me. I don’t stack clients. When you come in to see me, you are not waiting for hours while I finish another client. Your time is valuable to me and I don’t believe in wasting it.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I grew up in Compton California and have lived in Los Angeles for many years. My family in the late 60’s had several businesses in Los Angeles including liquor stores, cafes and beauty shops. Los Angeles is a great place to live. Very diverse.
Beautiful weather and the things to do or endless… you can go to the beach or enjoy a nature walk. Their tons of shopping to do and museums to explore. If you like sports, we have them all basketball, football, hockey, baseball you name it LA has it, many places to socialize and enjoy the nightlife. I guess the question would be what’s not to like about LA.

I am a client of Tracie’s and she has not only kept my hair happy and healthy but she helped my son with his hair and scalp issue a word too long for me to spell! She is your one stop shop for hair care and styling!
