Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephany Rodriguez-Medina.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Stephany. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I wish I could say I created Skin To Soul but Skin To Soul created me. Early this year, 2018 was when it all happened for me both personal and business growth. I found out I was struggling with a mental disorder, bipolar II, after being hospitalized for attempt suicide. Something I never would imagine I’d go through.
During my stay, I was suggested to take many medications to help with my well-being and some helped while some only made me feel worse. Some medications would give me reactions that caused my skin to become extremely sensitive. After doing research, I learned that a lot of products that we put on our skin and food that we put into our bodies release chemicals that affect our mental state and more so people who have mental disorders.
I had already been practicing aromatherapy at home, and I then thought to create natural products to enhance symptoms of well-being and influences of good emotion through self-care for myself. Practicing self-care through natural products then noticing how much essential oils and my own homemade self-care products have helped both mentally and emotionally I couldn’t wait to share it with all my friends and family.
I then became so motivated to share my story, joyfulness and products with everyone and that is when Skin to Soul manifested and created me.
Has it been a smooth road?
Of course not. Every ocean has its waves and I don’t believe that for every new entrepreneur there’s a smooth sail. There has been challenges especially when it comes to natural skin care products. You have to develop a relationship with people and gain trust which consisted of me giving products away to promote Skin To Soul.
It was challenging mainly because I’m naturally an introvert and having to put myself out there made me step out of my comfort zone which now, turned out to a be a great thing! With the help and support of my husband, Reuben, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Skin To Soul is an essential skincare brand made with all natural healing oils, butters, clays and earth powders sourced from local vendors in my community. It focuses on promoting natural ways of enhancing emotions through self-care. I love supporting my community and locals who work just as hard on their business. I specialize in handcrafting all natural self-care products with vegan options available.
Skin To Soul is known for soaps. Each soap is perfectly formulated with specific healing butters to match any needs. Most products from soaps, bath bombs, scrubs, dry shampoo, deodorant, balms and new upcoming products, are enhanced with essential oils for aromatherapy and relaxation.
When people take the time to message me and/or come to my pop-ups just to tell me how great they feel using my products and how much it’s helped them is my most proud moment. That is what sets Skin To Soul apart. I transcendence as a result from hardship and am now sharing it with my community.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Our city is a good place for businesses like Skin To Soul because there are not many natural self-care apothecaries. It is a highly populated city with different skin care options but very few natural remedies. When I’m at events besides the usual questions of “what ingredients are in your products?” it’s the “what is that?” where I’m excited to share what I have learned from ancient medicine and gives me the opportunity to bring awareness.
Although the many challenges of starting a business is location, with the different media platforms making it possible to get noticed and getting your product out to the people who are looking for an alternative, the same media platforms that allow you socializing with locals that are trying to accomplish their own business and events. Which is why I recommend a business to establish themselves in my community.
