Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicquel Zamora.
Nicquel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a Freelance Makeup Artist got my start interning at Ruby Makeup Academy after I graduated in 2015. I got my first real gig working with Alexis G. Artistry she is one of the reasons why I am where I am today she believed in me and gave me great opportunities that pushed me out of my comfort zone, so I’m forever grateful we worked together on a shoot for Amare Magazine I got to do touch up makeup on Terra Jole for Little people LA. Following after that, I’ve worked with singer-songwriter Lauren Dyson for many shows and music videos including the Grammys showcase and Music video No Future by Shaun Frank which received 1.7 million views. I’m currently working as a bridal makeup artist and doing various projects. I’m definitely looking forward to the next big thing and growing learning exploring this path that I’m so passionate about. As I’m continuing to work hard on my art, I’m focused more than ever to meet my goal to becoming a celebrity Makeup Artist.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Wow, so definitely it was super hard first off getting over myself, lol! My fear of actually going out and practicing my craft. I definitely was giving people uneven winged liner and two shades too light of foundation, so sorry to those ladies when I first had my start but really helped me learn from my mistakes the best thing is to continue practice is everything don’t quit I’ve had people tell me I sucked but I am determined to get better nothing comes easy and don’t get discouraged. Another hard part which I continue to have a hard time with is being shy when I’m around top influencers and models, I definitely try my best to network so important to take those opportunities to give them your card and making a great impression it really is who you know! I’m nowhere near where I want to be but so motivated to keep going that is what moves me seeing artists like Sam Visser, Mario, Danessa Mavericks, Pat McGrath and so many more. I’m always just in awe of there careers and they all pushed the boundaries that’s something that I’m going to do !!!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with your business – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I definitely love the skin that is my favorite. I’d like to say, I specialize in making my makeup feel like skin clients always tell me I feel like I’m not wearing anything I take pride in that I believe makeup is supposed to enhance your beauty not cover it.
Often it feels as if the media, by and large, is only focused on the obstacles faced by women, but we feel it’s important to also look for the opportunities. In your view, are there opportunities that you see that women are particularly well positioned for?
Other than a man? Women can do anything they set there mind to we are complex and made to be creative we create humans with our bodies. 😃 As women, I do feel like we can be overlooked it’s hard when there are so many women and men pushing for the same goal but honestly, it’s about consistency being focused and pushing the boundaries a lot of hard work no sleep I have kids I know the struggle. Opportunities are out there don’t sit on it if your heart is tugging you to speak up or take that chance do it!!! Women always doubt themselves and we have struggled with our confidence, body image, looks. We all have a talent follow through with it make it your own and keep building. This is a note to myself daily!
