Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelly Dowdle.
Kelly, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Seven years ago I was at a wedding and had to wear a formal gowns and did not have a strapless bra. I worked out in the hotel gym that morning so I decided to go back to the gym and take an exercise band (the Jane Fonda yellow one) And cut it into a sweetheart neckline and wear it as a strapless bra need my dress. Although it was itchy and made of latex, I had incredible lift and containment. At the time I was in the medical field so I consulted with a physician friend of mine and that is where the idea of Busté evolved. Fast forward five years, after a huge life change I decided to start my journey with the company. Thursday is a patent pending bra that is underwire free, non-toxic, and is going to change the bra game. We just finished pre-production and we are looking forward to launching this brand to the world!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
There has been nothing smooth about this process. I truly believe that when you are an entrepreneur at heart and in starting any company the process is arduous and difficult when you are birthing a new idea or concept. We have gone through 98 Proto types and it has taken almost 3 years to perfect this product. There have been many obstacles and doubts in the process. It has really helped me to come and understand the meaning of the joy is in the process and not the destinations. Anything really worth it requires persistence and faith. I have also learned a lesson that there is no right way to do anything and when you are a true pioneer it’s going to take many fails to get to the success. I have fully embraced failure not as a negative but as the very which thing that fuels me to keep going. It’s a reminder that nothing comes easy, especially a great idea! If we never heard the word no, then the yes wouldn’t be as fun in the end.
Please tell us about Busté.
We are an innovative patent-pending undergarment company specializing in boobies! Our secret ingredient is the internal lining of our bras and tops. We have not hit the market yet but we plan to be in the athleisure, bathing suit, everyday wear. Maternity, and medical sectors. We are currently seeking collaboration with brands to license our patent and work on a private label that I will be the face of as an actress/model and lifestyle expert. Our skin-safe silicone sheeting separates us from another other company. We have found a formula for THE bra. I am most proud of this company because it has taken lots of patience and pre-production R&D and many mistakes to get to where we are today. It’s the only bra I wear and I created a solution to a problem many women have! If it works for me, I am confident it will work for many other women!
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I wouldn’t change a thing. Being an entrepreneur is incredibly challenging at times but it is made me into the person that I am today. There’s been so much heart, time, and love that is been put into this brand but I have no doubt in my mind that it will be a huge win in the end. I am a huge believer in and powering people to never give up on a dream. This is a very platform that I will be launching this company from in hopes that I can encourage both women and men to stop at nothing to achieve their dreams.
