Life and Work with Alejandra Harnish

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alejandra Harnish.

Alejandra, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m from Bogota, Colombia. I discovered my love for fashion when I was a teenage model. From there, I decided to go to fashion school and luckily enough, my family supported my dreams and influenced me to pursue a career in fashion. At that point, my father expressed to me that I should go to fashion school. I took his advice and made a choice to travel to Europe after graduating as a fashion designer in Colombia. I discovered that the place to be at the time was Barcelona, Spain. Looking further into it, I decided to attend Felicidad Duce Fashion School in Barcelona. Luckily, it all worked out and I attended that program where I later graduated and received degrees in both fashion styling and fashion event planning.

Since then, I have made a transition to Los Angeles, CA where I have worked for successful individuals in the industry such as Derek Roche, Michael Nash, and Bruno Lima to name a few. I also work as a fashion and beauty blogger and have found that to be highly rewarding. I used to blog in Colombia prior to my move to the USA and becoming a stylist. It wasn’t until I went through a dark period in my life by having a misscarriage that I noticed I was missing something, fashion. From there, I decided to reinvent myself in the form of a blog called AleHarnish.com. With that, I get to actually express myself freely as a latin woman with big dreams living in LA.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Nothing in life comes easy and I can assure you it hasn’t been for me. Great things worth their while coming with a price. My advice to any woman or man looking to pursue their dreams, I will leave you with this thought:

“Stay true to yourself and your dreams, don’t be afraid to take a risk to persuade your goals,” I never imagined being in the position that I’m right now… living in a different country, working as a Blogger and most importantly, in my career, dream Fashion Styling.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Ale Harnish – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I have basically 2 jobs:
– I work as a Celebrity and Editorial Fashion Styling Assisting. I love my work and I’m grateful to God, my husband who has always supported my dreams and urges me to continue fighting and to my bosses for all the opportunities.

As a Fashion Stylist, I do a lot of running around LA from showroom to showroom pulling out clothes for a specific job. The day of the shoot I help the stylist to get the clothes ready but most important to be on top of every single detail.

– My second job is my blog. As a blogger, I love to share my passion for skincare and makeup. I also love to share my style as a fashion stylist I don’t dress up, for those who think this is a glamours job, let me tell you I wear sneakers, jeans, and t-shirts most of the time. But as a Fashion Blogger, I get to show my followers my style, my personality, and my lifestyle.

Do you think there are structural or other barriers impeding the emergence of more female leaders?
As women, we constantly struggle to be treated as equals to men. We are often paid less than men and judged on our value based on our sex. We have proven to be equally successful, work just as hard and deliver equal if not better results than some men in some cases yet we are still treated as less.
