Meet Miranda Hayek of Blossom Blue Studios in Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Miranda Hayek.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Like many creatives, I’ve had several creative outlets thought out my life. The photographic one started when working within the nonprofit sector, it was important to convey needs and share personal client stories visually in in a way that would help us acquire grant funding and support for programming and services….so my journey as a visual artist and storyteller began. Now my work focus consists of editorially documenting the life passion of others to preserve their legacy and empower them to reach their personal and career goals.

Has it been a smooth road?
In the beginning there was so much to learn…there still is! I personally will attest that knowledge is power so not knowing what I know now sometimes made things harder in the beginning. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is in valuing not just what I do and create but the time it takes to do it AND not to allow others determine that value. At first I was so happy just to be hired and to get to work that I allowed others to dictate my creative process and I looked to them to place value on it. It was hard to get out of that mindset but with time its gets easier. Overcoming this mindset now allows me the opportunity to create a body of work I enjoy and are proud to produce. For this I’m grateful.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Blossom Blue Studios story. Tell us more about the business.
Blossom Blue Studios, is a fine art photographic studio nestled in the heart of Belmont Shore California. As creative lead I direct the day to day operations and vision for both the fine art and business branding divisions. We specialize in archival fine art portraiture with an editorial approach and offer business branding, marketing & consultation. I’m really proud that we help not only preserve legacies but that we are part of creating them. Specializing in archival materials ensures the work we do will stand the test of time for future generations to enjoy. Our clients will relieve and share their memories for decades to come. They LOVE what we create for them but above all they never forget the experience in making these memories…

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Technology advancements are such a huge impact on the photographic industry so it’s unimaginable what the next 5-10 years will bring. What I do hope it brings is less of a microwave mentality around photographs and more of an understanding of the power of and importance of printing memories. We have become such an instant gratification disposable society that we lack value in the little things that really matter and people for longevity sake. We lack value in sustainability, quality, durability and cultivation of relationships. This makes me sad to know that not only are we no longer a society that appreciates our world and the people in our lives but in the long run we won’t even have the memory of them. For this reason I’m big on quality of life projects and of course the important of printing on archival materials. I hope that future generations use advancement in technology to create sustainable and archival materials that becomes the norm rather than the exception and that value returns to appreciate the process and beauty in art and creation.
