Art & Life with Emanuela Bocse

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emanuela Bocse.

Emanuela, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Born in Transylvania, I grew up in an artistic family that chafed under the censorship and repression of the Ceausescu regime. With limited access to Western art and literature, the artistic community I was part of looked to nature and the lives of ordinary people for inspiration. It was my father, a landscape artist who encouraged my love of nature, while my grandfather, a potter introduced me to its elemental aspects and sensual forms.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
“I’ve always been fascinated by Picasso, especially his early works. I am inspired by the Impressionists and post-Impressionists – Picasso, Cezanne, Pissarro – not just because of their celebration of color and nature but also by their positioning of the human form.

“In every photograph I seek to capture, in a split second, the unique story of a life, its passions and its struggles. I’m inspired by the struggle of creativity. I chose photography because it is such a contradictory medium; moments of stillness can contain so much vibrancy and humor.”

What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
As a photographer I never feel alone with my camera. Everywhere I go I connect with everything through my lens.
I find the creative community in Los Angeles very friendly. We, artists are extremely sensitive and if we can find and appreciate the beauty in each other it can be a wonderful experience.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
