Today we’d like to introduce you to Chundria Brownlow.
Chundria, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My love for digital media started as a child who was born and raised in Chicago. I enjoyed taking photos and videos with the home camera and pretending to be a radio disc jockey while I recorded my voice on my little radio. (Hey Hey… it’s Chundria… and you’re listening to WCFS (my initials). lol, I was about 8 or 9 years old and I remember being pretty set on a career as a meteorologist so I could report the weather on TV.
At 12, I visited a TV station for the first time for a live news broadcast and instantly fell in love with the inner workings on set. I couldn’t believe the weatherman was really standing in front of a green screen and not the graphic of the map I always saw on TV. I was so curious about how it all worked and what everybody in the studio did to make it happen. The cameras. The lights. The sound. I mean wow. So right after high school in 1999, I took a television production course at the High School Summer Institute at Columbia College. I loved the class and I love the college. In the Fall, I officially enrolled in Midwest’s top art school and a Full-time student.
Determined to be the best female director, I absorbed the material in my classes from writing to producing to production to editing & graphics. 5 years toward a degree and internships at ABC news and WCIU TV station, I walked across that stage. I really did it. I took off… working a few production jobs right after school and in 2007 I found myself ready for something new. I spent the next 5 years interviewing the industry’s favorite celebrities at a myriad of events in Chicago. Angela Bassett, Charlie Wilson, and Tia Mowry were by far a couple of my favorite interviews. I ended 2012 feeling ready for the next chapter: hosting my own talk show.
In August 2013, I rented a theatre in Chicago, produced some segments and packed the house out. My friends and family were a major help to me. In October 2013, I was featured as a guest on The Steve Harvey Show in a special segment called ‘The Virtual Virgin’ since I had never tried online dating. Steve and his dating expert Bela Gandhi gave me impeccable dating tips for my special date with a lucky bachelor. January 2014, I moved from my beloved hometown to the city of dreams… Los Angeles, CA. Nearly five years in LA, I am living my dreams in bright beautiful, bold colors. I continue to host and produce my talk show covering lifestyle, health & wellness and love.
I am an advocate for everyone living their best lives and feature special guest experts on my talk show called The Chundria Show. On June 10th, I got married back home in Chicago and my husband Ty moved to LA to be with me. My talk show is currently airing in 10 cities across the country and I am just getting started. My dream of being an internationally syndicated TV talk show host is still alive and thriving. I wouldn’t have it any other way. I’m 36. happy and doing what I love.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Smooth? What’s that? lol. Well, anything worth having is worth fighting for. I was raised in an incredibly supportive and loving family. The hardest time for me was moving to Los Angles with no family or friends in the city. I’m such an optimistic, glass-half-full type of person that I always carry the feeling that everything will work out.
I moved to LA with little savings and dream. I found out a friend was college lived in LA and she let me crash with her for 2 months. I had my cousin in San Diego, so I had a landing pad for the first year. Through her, I met another friend who I lived within the first year. However, I had no full-time job. The hardest part was being so ready to jump out there and film and produce my show but not having the funds to do so. I knew I had to live first, pay bills first… maybe even eat first. I had a car note and car insurance. Money had to used there first.
Also, timing was sometimes an issue. I had the money to book the venue to film the show, but I didn’t have any contacts to be guests on my show or vice versa.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success by the proud moments we feel. As we continue to feel proud of the work we’ve done, we see the fruits of our labor pay off. It’s not about money or praise. Success is a feeling. I continually set goals: daily, weekly, monthly and long-term. When I crush those goals (whether big or small) I feel good about myself. I know I put in the work and I know I will continue to see results. When you feel successful, you are successful.
