Conversations with the Inspiring Cecile Moulard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cecile Moulard.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Cecile. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I moved to L.A. from Paris, France six years ago. A crazy move that only LOVE could justify. Crazy because my professional life was well advanced, with many professional successes (including launching Amazon in France), a huge network and a reputation that took me to the boardroom of public companies: this should have been the perfect time in my life to harvest the benefits of my past efforts, but love decided otherwise.

Fast forward to December 2016. Hard realization that leadership is in deep crisis in governments in the US, Spain, France, The UK …, in businesses (Uber, Google, Weinstein …), etc. and that we cannot continue doing the same thing again and again and expect different results. This is when the MixR Project was born (www.mixr.net), here in L.A.

Here I am today. I am excited I may share community with you on MixR.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Challenges need to be managed. When well-managed, they become opportunities. When not managed or poorly managed, they become problems, and sometimes long-lasting problems. My advice: assess the challenges with your team (if only you, then pick a friend or a mentor), pick the most important ones, get to the root of it, decide together what to do and how to solve it, focus your resources, celebrate and pick the next one ..(I try to follow my advice as much as I can 🙂

What should we know about MixR? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The leadership crisis I mentioned earlier soon became our opportunity to explore a service for everybody to experiment with their leadership skills, and nurture them, with a focus on bringing women to the table so that they do not end up on the menu … again. We also came to the realization that for leadership to change, people need to be truly engaged every step of the way and that traditional hierarchies are preventing that from happening. Last, we strongly believe that magic happens when humans meet in real life.

The result is MixR: a community engagement engine that powers female leadership within local communities. Practically, on the MixR app you can join a group that matches your interests and meet like-minded people, right here at your door. You can suggest activities to each group you belong to or start a group of your own and share the task of growing your community with your members. If you belong to a bigger group, you can create a local chapter and grow the local community for this group. MixR is somewhat similar to Meetup, but it is free so that everyone can access it; we pay strong attention to safety and security – particularly important for women – and we focus on building community with richer profiles and easy-to-use sharing and communication tools.

MixR is also deliberately female-forward and should become the go-to platform to organize events in real life while creating long-lasting local communities in between events for all impact-focused, mission-driven organizations. Joining MixR is not only finding your tribe, but also the place for change makers to become game changers.

Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general? What has worked well for you?
My strongest advice is: ask for it! The worst that can happen is a No. If so, accept it gracefully and do not take it personally. Mentoring is mutually beneficial: you need to find the right mentor and your mentor need to feel she or he can give you the best.
