Today we’d like to introduce you to Hensi Morris.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Hensi. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I moved to Los Angeles from Mexico City and I was searching for women’s groups that I could join to meet people and grow my network. During this process I became aware of how many women’s groups where solemnly created for one particular type of woman (Mommy & Me, Single Girls, Women in Business, etc) It made me realize that part of the problem that women have towards relating towards each other came from feeling like you can only be understood or supported one particular moment in your life at a time.
The single girl gets married and the other single friends cast her aside (they no longer feel they can relate) You have a baby and now you feel you can only hang out with other moms, you are a “Boss Babe” and you only want to spend time networking with other women in business…
For me, personally, it didn’t make sense. I wanted to build a company where women came together in the spirit of sisterhood, regardless of where we are in life. A place to be authentic and vulnerable. A place where you can feel supported and understood in every aspect of your life. Diversity is a huge part of Lipstick Sister, it allows us to grow, learn and evolve and women.
Has it been a smooth road?
Dealing with women, in general, is never easy. We are beings that are guided by emotion. Insecurity and jealousy can fuel negative emotions that provoke a bad environment… So the most difficult part is dealing with so many different personalities and ways of communicating and receiving communication. Thankfully because we have a confidentiality agreement and a code of conduct in place, that every member must sign with their application, this gives us the opportunity to have a controlled environment when it comes to gossip, drama, disrespect or judgment. For the most part, I am grateful that it has been an easy road.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lipstick Sister, LLC story. Tell us more about the business.
The women that form part of this organization reached out because they were looking for something different, and they found it! They want a place where they can be authentic, have real conversations, surround themselves by women with similar values and interests. Most importantly, they are looking for a safe space. Most networking or social groups don’t have a screening process which means anyone can be a part of that organization.
For us, because we understand how difficult it is to be in a group of women where there is no drama, gossip or judgment, there must be a screening process. Women who are invited to join Lipstick Sister are in an emotionally healthy space. They know who they are. And most importantly they want to be surrounded by like-minded women. I am honored and proud to see how much with have grown in the past 7 years. To see the caliber of humans that form part of this family moves me every day.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I would love to see Lipstick Sister in other cities. Right now we have chapters in Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego, Washington, D.C. and New York. We hope to expand to Texas in 2019 and go from there…
