Ralf-Rainer, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m a serial entrepreneur having started over 12 companies. (www.iapprentice.com). It’s exhilarating to create something out of nothing especially when the result has the potential to shape an emerging industry. In this case, I am talking about the cannabis industry which is the focus of my NextRX startup.

NextRX’s mission is to create the first MilesHi program where users earn RXChange reward tokens which have a stoner proof valuation of 1 cent for 1 point. RXChange functions just like a mileage program in terms of simplicity.
Has it been a smooth road?
At the outset, NextRX’s mission was to provide a secure and convenient patient management system where mmj patients could easily register and check-in to dispensaries with just one scan of their RX-Pass. That was in 2012 and it has been a very long and arduous process that includes rejected Kickstarter and Indiegogo campaigns because of the cannabis connection as well as the first ever equity crowdfunding campaign that was live for 2 days before being pulled – again because of problems with the cannabis even though the company is strictly ancillary. http://www.nextrx.net/ourstory/ourstory/pivot.html.
Being the first at solving a problem definitely has huge challenges through the rejection of the last campaign did lead to an article in the business section of the LA Times for what its worth. http://www.nextrx.net/news/

NextRX was created to pay homage to Steve Jobs (Next was the last company he established) and RX suggests a connection to medicine which is entirely appropriate for cannabis whose potential as a powerful medicine is just being rediscovered. We created the RX-System and registered over 16,000 patients. Our system has the simple goal of improving the user experience for users through the use of cutting-edge technology.
The Rewarding Membership Network is distinguished by its simplicity and innovativeness. For the first time, users will be able to obtain product and pay right through their app.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the spirit of innovation and can do attitude in the westside startup community. Co-working spaces like WeWork, Spaces and CrossCampus are significantly enhancing the eco-system in tandem with incubators like TechStarts who have effectively reversed the startup success ration from 9 out of 10 startups fail to almost 9 of 10 succeeding. Of course, it helps that they are extremely selective.
The inevitable consequence of all this activity is that prices are rising swiftly in the area and it is getting decidedly more crowded, both of which are less than ideal.
