Meet Skyler Bolton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Skyler Bolton.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I first discovered ceramics in 2005, new to both the art world and Los Angeles. I went on to study art at a local community college and later at CSU Long Beach. I gained a BA in Studio Arts with a specialization in ceramics. Discovering The Pottery Studio about a year after graduating, I signed up for a membership and became a part of an amazing lively ceramics community.

Please tell us about your art.
I make practical ceramic objects with a contemporary Chinese/Japanese/American pottery influence. I seek to capture beauty in the layers of glaze on my works. My main interest lies in discovering the interesting interactions between multiple glazes and using those quirks to create design.

I hope that I can make pieces that have function and can bring a moment of beauty into the lives of those who use them.

Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
The most important thing to focus on is your work. Practice and dedication never have an end point. There is always something to improve upon. It’s okay to take momentary satisfaction, but always keep moving forward.

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
