Meet Maricruz Chia of K&M Foodservice

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maricruz Chia.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was initially hired to work at K&M in the order desk department in 2011 at which point my main duties were primarily customer service and taking phone orders.

By 2012, I was promoted as the Executive Assistant to the Director of Operations and as such I know the ins and outs of K&M’s daily’s challenges. I wear many hats that have made me an expert in overlooking K&M’s productivity. I make sure that special order items are readily available for our VIP customers, and I’m the figure of public relations, customer satisfaction.

I’m humbled by that my colleagues and superiors come to me to tackle the company’s difficult matters. In summary, I am the “GO-TO GIRL”, that both my K&M Family and our customers can count on to execute projects efficiently.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
One of my immediate challenges was learning my supervisor’s character. He is a strong-minded individual that uses teaching tactics with strong love but has been one of my finest mentors. Time-and-time again, I had to prove myself and overcame each obstacle, earning not only his respect but his confidence. Now he knows that whatever issues arise when he’s not there, I’m qualified to handle the majority of company challenges. We make a great team.

As time passed I have proven myself to be a strong, unique, reliant individual and not just another pretty face. As a female sometimes we are taken to be weak and not having the capability to help run a company.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
At K&M Foodservice, the very core of our business is by definition, service. We are a family owned and operated company who is dedicated to creating long-lasting relationships with our family of customers. As our customer family grows, we choose to grow with them.

Undeniably, K&M has evolved over the decades and we continue to incorporate a fresh, New World approach to the changing needs of the foodservice industry while still maintaining the traditional Old-World values that make us who we are today.

While K&M offers many different types of products to fit our client’s foodservice needs, our main focus is on quality and service. We take pride in the time and care we put into our customer’s food, understanding that our efforts play an important part of creating treasured meals and memories that are enjoyed by thousands of people daily, in different parts of this great nation. From the best steaks to seafood to hors-d’oeuvres, we have it all. K&M Foodservice is proud to make meals memorable one plate at a time.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I always wanted to be the best at everything. As a kid, my mission was to earn good grades and make my parents proud. As far as I can remember, I have always been a hard worker. From a young age, I have been extremely social and loved participating in school events. In Junior High, I was part of the student council and was appointed Senator of my class. My goal was to always be involved with community service, and be aware of the issues that affect my community.

Coming from a family that migrated into this country, we were financially limited. Growing up, I lived in a 2-bedroom home that housed my four brothers and sister, parents, uncle, and many other family members from time-to-time. Seeing the hard-working ethics of my parents gave me the initiative to start working at a very young age.

Their resilience taught me to be independent. That drive enabled me to be a homeowner at a young age and as a single mother, provide everything my daughter needed.
