Julia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a silly lady with a passion for beauty. Though life’s journey detoured me a bit elsewhere, I finally came to my senses and answered my true loves calling and started Ohhh my lashes. It all started with me zooming from one end of the valley to the other and beyond its borders lashing anyone who wanted to look and feel just a little prettier.
Soon after my business began to grow and I decided to set roots and met the best group of people I could ever hope for at Shear Eclipse Salon. I then rented a space and have had not only the joy of sharing a work environment with the best stylists in town but also have had the opportunity of continued growth with the work I love.
I enjoy sharing all I know and most of all am so grateful that all my clients let me play a part in helping them create a beautiful look for them. I currently specialize in Eyelash Extensions and have added services such as Lip & Brow Waxing, Sunless Tanning and I’m currently adding Skin Care to the menu!
Has it been a smooth road?
Depending on yourself to earn a living is definitely not simple or for the faint of heart. I have definitely had major bumps where I thought it was a burden too heavy to carry because I needed to contribute income for our household, especially because I had left my old 9-5 job behind. These bumps included not having enough clientele early on when I thought to go into business on my own was going to be a piece of cake or in reality not thinking too much about what it was going to take. I also was very hard on myself for not growing my business faster, definitely no patience.
Another bump I realized not at the moment but quite sometime later was that in reality, I didn’t need to invest in every single piece of product or merchandise for my services or clients. I made a huge mistake of over-buying many things that either I didn’t use or my clients didn’t need. Of course, there are many other examples, but these are definitely my top three. But however difficult this journey is at times, it really is a labor of love. I couldn’t see myself doing anything else.

Ohhh my lashes specialize in crafting beautiful eyelash extensions and creating unique and beautiful looks at affordable pricing while at the same time enjoying a relaxing and beautiful atmosphere. As I mentioned before, I’ve also added Lip & Brow Waxing, Sunless Tanning and I’m currently working on adding Skin Care to the menu. I am most proud that I offer a professional location where my clients can come to rest, relax and rejuvenate! Maya Angelou said, “I have learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” This is what I believe sets me apart.
I am a firm believer that kindness and patience goes a long way and sadly these are some of the qualities we are failing in our businesses, and I hear this complaint over and over again. It’s important to remember that it’s because of our clients that we earn a living, of course, it doesn’t mean being taken advantage of, but kindness and true interest in our clients is imperative to having repeat clients and referrals, therefore I make it a vital quality in my business.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I definitely feel this is a great place to start a business like this in our city. Yes, of course, there is always competition but we also cannot serve one million clients. I believe there is room for everyone!
