Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Miller.
Adrian, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. My mother spotted my artistic talent and decided to have me audition for the School of Creative and Performing Arts. There I studied Visual arts from 5th grade to senior year, graduating with a focus in sculpture.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My art is a reflection of my views of media and this social and public display of narcissism that’s becoming so acceptable in our daily lives. So much noise and repetition in thought and execution, it feels like every second of everyday there’s someone screaming to gain attention. The more I examined the culture to pursue a subject for my art, the more I was inspired to create an abstruse subject matter. Just creating another ‘thing’ seemed to be an act of everything that gave me this anxiety from the minute I was up participating in the world.
After becoming a fan of Mark Rothko’s work and his desire to heal the human psyche and soul through his color theory and the scale of his paintings, it helped clarify my own journey. Can I make a painting that could rejuvenate and revive the soul? Can I quiet the screaming of everyone and everything around the viewer if not for the few seconds a viewer chooses to engage with my work?
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
Being an artist can be very isolating especially if you’re like me being an introvert and a highly sensitive person. Even if you do go out to break the hours of loneliness in front of a painting, sculpture, computer etc, you find yourself wanting to retreat after absorbing everyone’s energy by engaging for so long.
My advice is to find the RIGHT people to surround yourself with. Look for groups and individuals whose work, or more importantly, have the kind of fun you’re into and don’t be afraid to get to know and be known.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
You can see my finished work and pieces from my latest show ‘The Search for Riches’ on my website. You can also check out my process and personal nonsense on my Instagram page.
