Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Macias.
Brianna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I remember watching my mom carefully apply her lipstick, the way she lined her lips, how she chose her perfect shade… it seems so simple but to me, it was so exciting. Then, I would watch movies like Selena, and I remember just looking at the makeup (I find myself doing that with every movie now). How did they choose that perfect red lip? I was always so intrigued. When it came to my coloring books, you would always see perfectly blended colors… my dad taught me at a young age to not just fill in with one color but rather to create depth and bring life in a picture. Growing up, my uncle would let us sit and watch (very quietly) as he painted on huge canvases. I always say that my creativity and fascination with art is in my blood… I have surrounded by art my entire life. So, when it came time to do competitive Show Choir (thank you Glee for making it popular again ha!) and dance shows, I had to do my own makeup – it was my way of calming my nerves before a performance and at that moment, I would be still.
Later in life, I had the opportunity to do makeup for a wedding and I instantly knew it was my calling. Creating a timeless look for a bride on one of the most cherished days in her life is such an honor and it’s one I hope to never take for granted.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I wish I could say, it’s been perfect but the truth is that there are scary moments. There are moments that you look at the months ahead and are short on bookings but then a week later you receive a rush of inquiries from brides waiting until the last minute to book beauty services. Of course, there are times when you question if you have made the right decision running a creative business but I am proven time and time again that this is where I am supposed to be.
My advice to young women starting out is – create your own support system because too often we as women are told to depend on others because we can’t do it on our own. It’s okay to be independent, it’s okay to take the time to build your business – don’t allow other people to allocate your time. You are your own person, create the life you want.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Brianna Macias – Makeup Artist – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a makeup artist with an on-location team of beauty professionals that currently in Southern California and I will be expanding my services to Denver, Colorado as well. We offer on-location makeup services including traditional and airbrush with our specialty in bridal/weddings services. One thing I am most proud of is that we always arrive on-time, provide GREAT services, are personable and professional.
Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
My grandparents becoming U.S. citizens and living their own American dream is truly what motivates me. My work ethic comes directly from seeing them work so hard every single day. They taught us that no matter the struggle, we should continue to be kind to people and make an honest living. Looking back, my friends definitely had more than what we had but we didn’t know because we had a happy place to come home to and that’s all that mattered to us.
My business is successful because I am happy going what I love – I work hard every single day making an honest living, I surround myself with positive people and I create my own happy place.
