Today we’d like to introduce you to Philipp Manser.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
About 20 years ago, I was confronted with a choice… continue to hide and numb myself… or to meet myself, make a change and become participatory. An epiphany followed… while I was in the corridor of my trusted corner video store. It was there that I was fortunate enough to meet my first yoga teacher. She looked at me and smiled compassionately. I, on the other hand, forced my then shameful smile. She asked me if I ever considered yoga. That evening, I attended my first yoga class. My body was screaming in pain and gratitude for the gift. Through sweat and shame of having mistreated my body for so long, I instinctively knew I was on my path of healing and teaching.
How did I get to be this way? My childhood was blessed with the good fortune of a loving family, friends, adventure and health and heart-opening experiences. Back then, I took it all for granted. My ignorance was bliss. The truth, however, was that I just kept burning my candle at both ends… and in the middle. I had not yet deepened (although I was given many opportunities). Subsequently; unaware of the need to take care of my mind and body; my health suffered greatly. As a teenager, I developed a severe case of scoliosis and subsequent fossilization of my muscles along my spine. In my twenties, I used to run 60 miles a week without ever stretching out. I drank alcohol like it was going out of style and even abused drugs. Throughout my life, I had multiple accidents, resulting in physical trauma and scar tissue. Death wounded my heart, disease compromised my immune system, while business challenges were destroying my confidence. I had to make a change. I chose Yoga, Reiki and the power of breath to take charge of my healing.
20 years of consistent “self-inquiry” humbled me into receiving the gift of life and health. Gradually, my practice introduced and encouraged compassion within me and fostered further compassion for others. My body grew not only stronger, but also more flexible. Inflammation started to reduce. My nutrition began to support my physical and mental health. My body chemistry began to support me instead of fighting within me. My new found respect for life and body inspires me to share what I have learned. I learned movement of the body is essential. The one who rests – rusts. Yoga is a wonderful way for me to begin and maintain a healthy body and mind. Reiki allowed me to become aware of my inner light. Hiking to connect with Mother Nature.
Has it been a smooth road?
I have been blessed with living in beautiful Malibu and it’s nature. Always supporting my natural essence. That said it is not always easy. Just because I practice Yoga and facilitate Reiki did not mean clients were breaking down my studio door. I had to earn trust in the community by building one. I drove between 600 and 700 miles a week teaching all over Los Angeles and supporting people through their challenges. I am fortunate to have had that opportunity. Today is much calmer and more personalized. I have learned that less is more. I have a thriving practice at a local Malibu Yoga Studio and private clients that appreciate my personal attention. My students are from every walk of life and I am very grateful for their support.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My health and wellness practice consists of Yoga, Reiki, Hiking and Listen/Talk Therapy.
I specifically offer Yin Yoga to facilitate the release of trauma (emotional and physical) and ease injuries, Vinyasa Yoga to enhance stamina, flow and strength, Hatha Yoga for beginners to inspire the journey of a home practice. Yoga travel has been a very intimate way of deepening my student’s practice.
I am a Reiki Master Teacher. My 12-year schooling to become a Master Teacher has opened me to the universal light energy healing. With consistent light, we can restore imbalances in mind and body.
I live in the Malibu mountains for their beauty, vistas, and hiking. I offer to enjoy them with me to build strength and stamina while getting a visual healing and the love of Mother Nature.
My fellow practitioners appreciate my compassion, consistency, discretion, humor, directness, and encouragement. My life’s experiences have uniquely qualified me to facilitate my student’s journey.
What’s your favorite memory from childhood?
In seventh grade, I discovered the book ‘Siddhartha’ by Herman Hesse. A story of Buddhas’ journey to enlightenment. I loved the dedication to his practice. I got inspired by the simplicity of life when we decide not to indulge in the shenanigans of the ego mind. Peace of mind is always available if we decide to inquire what triggers us and keeps us from that unconditional state of being. A very early lesson in life requiring constant practice.

Philip is one of my favorite teachers. He challenges people, yet is gentle and kind. His positive vibe is undeniable. His vinyasa classes in the beautiful barn in Simi have been missed!
