Meet Trista Tripp and Sydney Sherman of Thread Maiden in Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trista Tripp and Sydney Sherman.

Trista and Sydney, please share your story with us.
So, we are 2 girls who grew up in L.A. and with that comes many fashion and identity issues… like most, we look for original pieces and clothing that we feel best represents us.

It just started to feel impossible to be different without actually having turquoise hair or shaving our heads (let’s be honest, that’s not even individual anymore… that’s everyone).

We realized early on that we worked well together and one random day decided to make a clothing line. We were inspired by the idea of working for ourselves and having a good teammate to create with. Trista having a history in fashion, styling, and being a social media influencer and Sydney running her own custom picture framing factory and having it in her blood being the Granddaughter of fashion designer Ben Sherman decided to take on their own fashion hustle.

Thread Maiden came about because of the idea of exclusivity. We were sick of seeing the same ole’ cheesy women’s inspirational quotes in the same font on every sweater and t-shirt… it didn’t represent us as women and we didn’t represent any of the women we knew either.

We source high-quality materials and use the best printing/embroidery technology out there. Thread Maiden is meant to embrace women as individuals and is not mass produced just as women are not mass produced.

We only do limited runs of each design and once it’s sold out, the design will not be made again.

This is our way of keeping Thread Maiden unique and exclusive, but without it costing a fortune.

The concept of a girl gang resonated deeply with us. So, we made a crew… The Thread Maiden Crew.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been pretty smooth. With business you have an original idea… but then, you have adjusted for reality. We have become extremely educated in: Printing techniques, Adobe Illustrator, Online Merchandising, Fb and Insta Ads, Social Media, and just getting Thread Maiden out there. These were things we were not educated in thoroughly before… now, we are pros.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Thread Maiden story. Tell us more about the business.
We make limited run women’s apparel. We are most proud of the fact that we’re doing it, we had an idea and we had some haters but we continued and pushed through. We’ve had plenty of people tell us that we couldn’t do it… but, we did!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
We don’t really believe in luck. It’s life, it’s hard work. You get what you put into it. We do believe in being a good person and treating every man/woman fairly and with a good heart. That’s where our luck comes from. What goes around, comes around.
