Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Kato.
Stephanie, please share your story with us.
“Is this it?” – I used to ask myself.
In 1995, I had been working for over a decade in an industry that paid the bills but did not feed my soul. I was fairly stressed out and decided a massage was just the ticket. I contacted (what I thought was) a massage office and they said “we don’t offer massage, we offer colon hydrotherapy”, to which I asked, “What the heck is that?”. “A gentle cleansing of the large intestine using purified water” – was the reply. Intrigued, I booked a session and soon I was elated, believing I had just found the next best thing to sliced bread. As it turns out, sliced bread is just one of the foods I loved and consumed that kept me constipated! Me – constipated? As a matter of fact, I was and had no idea up until that point in my life. I went back a few times and they told me I would make a wonderful therapist and would I be interested in training with them? Hmmm… I was unhappy in my job, not really knowing what I wanted to do with my life and this new career was being offered on a silver platter. “Sign me up!”
Once I started working as a colon hydrotherapist, my entire life changed. I lost about 10 lbs. in a couple months by changing my diet and cleaning my colon. I started to access my emotional body on deeper levels than ever before. I began the journey on my spiritual path that continues to this day… all because I said yes to my first colonic.
22 years (and counting) later, I find myself the owner of a beautiful and busy holistic health office with wonderful clients and two loving and amazing healing therapists. By embracing my desire to help others (and myself) heal, life has rewarded me with a business where I literally get to love people all day long. This is my life today. In the span of two decades I have gone from being overweight, dissatisfied in my job, lethargic and uninspired to joyful, energetic, proactive and healthy – physically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually, I am blessed indeed!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Do you want to know something interesting? I was guided the whole way. Has it been a smooth road? When I was listening to the higher/spiritual part of me that knew what I didn’t – then yes, it was very smooth. The challenges came when I lead with control and an “I know better” type of attitude. Within each of us exists a higher self that is calm and doesn’t get involved in the day to day drama our egos/small minds likes to trifle with. This spiritual part of me told me when I needed to open my own business in 2013, specifying exactly what I needed to do. Every single person in the process of opening my business was truly an amazing human being. I had a contractor who was sunshine on a stick and came in on time and on budget. My landlord was the only owner to offer a substantial amount of TI to help me with construction costs. Even my Verizon rep was a spiritual guru and we had some deep and meaningful conversations as he set up my phone system! For a business like mine the construction costs are pretty substantial, however, the money I needed to start construction showed up exactly when I needed it and the money to pay off my business loan followed in the second year.
Obstacles and challenges are most often created from our own minds and perceptions. In other words, we human beings often make our lives much more difficult than is necessary because we don’t trust/love ourselves, struggle with unworthiness and choose to (attempt) control rather than trust the process of life. It is our birthright to live a life of joy, peace, and love. How do we get there? Surrender and trust. Does this make for a smooth road to travel on daily? I believe it certainly does!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Iyasu Colonics story. Tell us more about the business.
Iyasu offers metaphysical and regular colon hydrotherapy (a.k.a. colonics), bioelectric lymphatic drainage massage, reiki, and craniosacral therapy. Stephanie created a style of healing, and a safe space, where clients can view their physical dysfunction from the different perspectives of mental, emotional, spiritual and physical.
Many of us have forgotten the truth of who we are. We live our lives believing we are unworthy and unlovable. This creates stress internally and affects our lives, bodies, relationships, and careers. Belief systems affect our internal environment and tend to manifest as physical dysfunction. I teach people to trust and work with the wisdom of their bodies. Our bodies are wise and often present physical issues as a way to get our attention to focus on our feelings, our beliefs and our issues around control, expectations, and trust. When a client accesses the different parts of themselves while releasing in a colon hydrotherapy session, they begin to understand the relationship between what they feel/believe and how their body responds. Working with clients in this way can help them to understand the truth of who they are, and affirms their worthiness simply because they exist. Illness and dysfunction serve us when we are open to hearing the message our body is relaying.
In this way, colon hydrotherapy is very deep, sacred work and can encourage our clients to remember who they truly are.
Stephanie believes that true and lasting healing exists within each person, and created two additional self-healing modalities to assist people on their healing journeys. She wrote the book “Embracing Love By Letting Go” and created a 5-hour video online self-healing course “Iyasu’s Metaphysical Cleanse”. Both are available on her website:

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I actually don’t believe in luck. I see our lives and the people in our lives mirroring our belief systems. By practicing detached observation of our minds, we can notice (without self-criticism or self-judgment) what we believe to be true about ourselves. Every experience and every person can be viewed as a gift to help us grow and become the best versions of ourselves. For example, if a client books an appointment, agrees to pay for canceling within the 24-hour window and then goes back on their word, it gives the therapist an opportunity to hold both boundaries and self-respect. If a therapist doesn’t believe they are strong enough to handle that type of conversation, life might bring those experiences to strengthen them. If a therapist experiences bookings and subsequent cancellations, life might be helping them to become more solid in their beliefs about themselves as a healer.
I actively participate in continuing spiritual experiences through healing workshops and meditation. As I have changed and grown as both a person and a therapist, my clients reflect that change. It is actually very fascinating to witness, and a beautiful confirmation of my own personal and spiritual growth process.
