Meet Nicoletta Daskalakis of Brides & Hairpins in Costa Mesa

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicoletta Daskalakis.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Nicoletta. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I first started off in the bridal industry as a makeup artist and hair stylist turned photographer. I would meet thousands of brides and be a part of their special day and it was from here that the concept for Brides and Hairpins was born. It felt like a natural progression from what I was doing as when you are being creative with various hairstyles and fulfilling how a bride wants to look, I kept wishing that I had certain headpieces or veils or that headpieces were lighter and didn’t weigh the hairstyle down. I feel that a striking headpiece is what sets a bride apart from the rest and I wanted to create a collection that was beautiful but also unique and versatile and one that would cater for every bride. We started with our first collection and we would attend New York bridal market every year and eventually, our brand started to gain traction. One of our biggest clients has been Nordstrom and this was a huge blessing for us as it meant that our brand became mainstream. We now also have our collection Bloomingdale’s and Anthropologie. We have some incredible retailers stocking our collection all over the world and this is based on building great relationships and making sure we are giving customers pieces they can really love.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Running your own business and still trying to be a full-time mom and wife has had its struggles. There just never seems to be enough hours in the day and this has been the most challenging aspect. I am so passionate about our collection and what we stand for and it has taken a lot of hard work and dedication to get our brand to where it is today. We had many doors closed to us in the beginning but with perseverance, we have now become a well-known and sought-after brand.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Brides & Hairpins – what should we know?
Brides and Hairpins is a high-end hair accessories brand aimed at the modern, vibrant and bold woman. We specialize in handmade veils, halos, headbands, combs, clips, and pins in various colors and have a large collection offering a headpiece for any women whether she is a bride, attending a party or partying at Coachella. I am most proud of this company because we have put our heart, soul and attention to every facet of the business. From our collection to our packaging, to our marketing, photo shoots, and social media, we have endeavored to make it all beautiful! I feel this is what sets us apart! It took me years to put together a team who I am so honored and blessed to work with. We are so thankful for social media as this helps us to understand the different trends which as so ever-changing and it is our aim to be a leader in our industry and create accessories that will set us apart.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I am an incredibly driven and hardworking person. It is not uncommon to find me up until 2 am working on new designs or photoshopping our latest collection. I have learned with this business to be a master of all trades whether it is taking pictures of our hairpieces to coming up with all the text for our brochures. I feel this has led to the success of the business as hard work pays off but also being able to get down and do what needs to be done.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First of all, I have to say my biggest supporters and cheerleaders have been my husband and family. Without a strong support network, you are pretty much unable to do anything. My husband has picked up with our kids and been there when I couldn’t and when it has come to client meetings and shows across the USA, my parents have flown in from abroad to help look after them and this is a huge blessing and it has made it possible for me to try and expand Brides & Hairpins and take it in the direction I wanted and help it grow.

There are so many incredible and inspiring women, not only in this industry but across all various types of business sectors. To name a few, I have worked with Jasmine Star who is such a dynamic and motivating entrepreneur, Gina De Vee who I have been following on her powerful journey. Companies such as 31bits who have done such great things for the accessories industry and what they stand for with helping women in a third world country thrive. The list is endless but these women have pushed me to become better and to do more and I am grateful we are in such an enterprising time with women really making a stamp on the economy and building global empires. It really is such a great time!
