Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexie Bennett.
Hi Lexie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Modern Skin Guru started the way most modern businesses do: accidentally. I’m a licensed esthetician, and I’ve spent the last 15 years in the professional beauty industry spanning the treatment room, education, sales, and brand building (the full multi-hyphenate arc). I’m obsessed with what makes people trust a brand: the experience, the story, and the community around it.
After stepping back a bit when I became a mom, I kept getting pulled into projects. Brands asking for strategy, introductions, launch plans, trainings, events, and partnership support. At a certain point it became obvious: I wasn’t “taking time off,” I was just doing the work differently.
So I formalized it into Modern Skin Guru: a boutique consulting agency and platform helping beauty and wellness brands grow through partnerships, positioning, and high-impact execution. I keep my roster intentionally small because I’m here for quality, not chaos.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not exactly smooth and honestly, I’m grateful for that, because the “friction” is what clarified what I’m meant to do.
For a long time, my biggest struggle was finding my place inside brands. I loved the work, but I often felt the limits of being loyal to just one brand at a time, especially when my brain naturally sees the bigger ecosystem: the partnerships, the community angles, the retail strategy, the storytelling. I’d have ideas that could move things forward quickly, but when you work for someone else, you’re operating inside their priorities, timelines, and comfort level. As a creative, that can feel very stifling.
Motherhood added another layer in a good way and a hard way. It forced me to get incredibly clear on what’s worth my time (and what isn’t.) I had to learn that being “busy” isn’t the same as building something sustainable, and that I can’t build my business the way a 25-year-old version of me would have.
So yes, it’s challenging. But it’s also the most aligned and at-peace I’ve felt professionally. Even on the hard days, it feels like I’m building my own vision and that makes the struggle feel purposeful instead of draining.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Modern Skin Guru?
Modern Skin Guru is a boutique consulting agency for beauty and wellness brands. I help founders and teams turn strong ideas into real growth through partnerships, positioning, and high touch execution. Think collaborations that make sense, launches that feel intentional, and experiences that people actually remember.
What I specialize in:
Partnership strategy and warm introductions
Community and event activations, from concept to run of show
Founder and brand positioning, messaging, and rollout plans
Education and training development, turning expertise into a signature offering
What I’m known for:
I’m equal parts beauty insider and business operator. I bring the credibility of a licensed esthetician who understands product, services, and what customers truly respond to, plus the ability to execute quickly and cleanly. I don’t just hand over a strategy deck. I build the plan, write the outreach, connect the right people, and help carry it across the finish line.
What sets me apart:
My work is relationship driven and detail obsessed. I care about the full brand experience, not just the aesthetics. Every recommendation is grounded in what builds trust long term, with an emphasis on quality, clarity, and results without the chaos.
What I’m most proud of:
I’ve built Modern Skin Guru to be selective by design. A smaller roster means better work, stronger outcomes, and real partnership with my clients. I’m proud that most opportunities come through referrals, which tells me the work is landing the way it should.
What I want readers to know:
If you are building in beauty and want smart connections, clear positioning, and execution support that feels elevated and true to your brand, that’s what Modern Skin Guru delivers.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Best: The people, the creative momentum, and the collective desire to collaborate. In LA, a casual “let’s grab coffee” can turn into a partnership by lunch.
Least: The traffic, obviously. I’ve had full emotional arcs on the 101.
