Today we’d like to introduce you to Polet Zargarian and Elna Kordijan.
Polet and Elna, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The way Arrows & Bliss Design started is actually an amazing story that we would love to share! We met about two years ago while working at a different job and quickly became friends when we realized how similar we are when it comes to creative interests.
We were casually working on the set-up of our own Elna’s engagement party when we discovered that nothing out there came close to our vision of custom props and design elements. We wanted to try new things and step out of the box, but since nothing was readily available, we combined our background skills from theatre and art then started creating everything ourselves. The moment we saw Elna’s engagement party successfully come to life, we decided right then and there that this was the start of a new adventure. What originally started as a friend helping out another friend, soon turned into a business and we couldn’t be happier.
Now, almost two years later, Arrows & Bliss Design has not only created one of a kind events but has allowed our clients and their guests to get interactive with our custom-made pieces like our donut walls, games, and guest signage stations.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As with starting anything new, there will always be some bumpy roads, but for every bump, we’ve learned and grown through our experiences. We are now quick to adapt to any unforeseen challenges. Weather, order mixups, and time restraints have been some obstacles for us, but that’s what we signed up for, taking the situation and making it work.
For example, we had a large donut display and had placed a custom order for mint green glazed donuts. Two hours before the event, we received six dozen donuts in lime green. Can you imagine? Lime green instead of mint! Another time, we arrived at our venue to set up and the doors were locked, even though we confirmed our arrival time with the site manager. Since we only had two hours until the event, we had to start assembling the custom-made centerpieces in the parking lot in 100-degree weather!
As you can see, events are unpredictable, just as they are in life, but these situations have proven to make us great creative problem solvers. Throw us a lemon and who knows, we might end up making you a lemon peel backdrop!
Arrows & Bliss Design – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are event designers that specialize in hand-crafted dessert tables, backdrops, centerpieces, invitations, favors and more, but it doesn’t stop there. In a way, we are also bakers, florists and even event coordinators. That’s what sets us apart. We can do it all! We are extremely flexible with our client’s needs and can take care of everything as a whole or focus on one specific element.
We start this process by providing a style sheet questionnaire for our new clients to understand their preliminary vision, style and ideas. Then, we move forward with a digital sketch or a mood board. We always do our best to be adaptable to each client’s needs and their budget.
We pride ourselves to make every event look different, even if it’s a theme we’ve designed before. We apply our artistic knowledge and skills to design special events such as birthdays, showers, weddings and more. We like things to have a natural flow and look effortless. We go for that raw, yet refined look. Whether, it comes through in our materials choices, textures or even desserts, we strive to create an overall organic vibe.
Arrows and Bliss Design isn’t a 9 to 5 gig. We’re constantly looking for inspirations and some of our best ideas happen at midnight! We wear many hats and are often juggling multiple tasks at a time, but we do it with love.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Our luck started the day we met. We were both doing our own thing when our paths crossed and our minds connected at the right time to start our business. We trust in what’s meant to be and keep moving forward, even if we don’t have a concrete plan. We took a chance with Arrows & Bliss because it was our passion.
We have also been lucky to work with some incredibly sincere and talented vendors, from whom we have learned a great deal about. Last but not least, we are fortunate and blessed for our supportive families who are basically the backbones of Arrows and Bliss Design.
