We’re looking forward to introducing you to Amaris Davidson. Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Amaris, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I am in an acting class at Brandon Thomas Studios. It has brought me great joy. It has helped me move deeper into my vulnerability. It is a community of like-minded creatives, and it’s just plain fun! I learn so much every class, and learning makes me really happy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Amaris Davidson. I am an actor and activation coach. Both require my creativity, which is at the core of my brand. Activated By Amaris is my coaching company. I created a tool called the Activation Grid that helps lead people from feeling stuck and stagnant to a place of freedom and flow. Each activation session is tailored for the individual and utilizes exercises and tools that provide the foundation that leads to actualizing radical self-discipline, authenticity of character, and excellence of craft. As a actor, I utilize creativity to bridge worlds, differing thoughts and alternate perspectives on the human condition.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
This question brings me to soft, grace-filled tears. The part of me that served it’s purpose was the people pleaser. The person who showed up for others whether I was busy, exhausted, or overwhelmed with my own life. I loved her so much. I know she was a great help to others, but she was a detriment to herself. Learning how to set boundaries helped me reclaim balance.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of being truly seen has held me back far more than any other fear ever has, which is ironic given that I am an actor. To be seen as a fully vibrant, creative, sensitive, joy-filled, genuinely curious, talented leader can be paralyzing when you see how it affects others. Even typing this feels a little weird because you can’t see my face or hear my heart, but I no longer apologize for being me. I noticed early on that me showing up as my full self kinda made others mean, or worse, shy. I think it’s one of the reasons I coach now. I want to activate people to be their most authentic selves because I have since learned that that is the greatest gift you can give to others.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
The biggest like that my industry tells itself is that we are in a competition with others. The truth is, we are in competition with our willingness to be truly authentic. Whether in the entertainment industry or the coaching industry, or any other industry, we are being asked, begged even to show people who we really are.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
If I’m being honest, I have always led sort of a quiet rebellion. It was always masked in the arts and helping, so it looked less like rebellion. However, I don’t have kids and I am not married, which is a societal norm coming from where I am from especially for a woman my age. I have just always felt this deep pull, this aggressive urge to help others. It didn’t matter if that was through serving at my church, coaching, or storytelling. I just could never abandon the truth that I was put here to make people feel seen for their natural contributions to this world and help wake them up when they go dormant. That happens to be through their gifts. I’m doing exactly what I was put here to do.
