Community Highlights: Meet Dmytro Kotenok of Waylight

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dmytro Kotenok.

Hi Dmytro, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was the founder of an influencer marketing agency. During COVID, I realized that creators needed simple monetization tools—not paid ads. That insight led me to dedicate my life to Waylight.

We started with a small MVP, pivoted multiple times, and learned from our mistakes. Today, Waylight has served over 50,000 users and generates more than $2 million in annual creator earnings.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Reaching the goal was far from a smooth journey—and we’re still on the way, improving ourselves every day. The biggest challenge was finding product–market fit in an environment where no one had time to share feedback, while at the same time competing with and differentiating ourselves from much larger companies. This process took years of working up to 16 hours a day.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Waylight?
Waylight inc. — a no-code platform for creators and events to start and manage online sales directly on social media. You can sell through a link in bio or stories with a one-click checkout that maximizes conversion. Waylight also increases repeat purchases using built-in marketing tools for Telegram, Discord, and WhatsApp. In short, it’s the easiest way for creators and events to sell their products or services on social media. With Waylight, you can easily: sell subscriptions to your Telegram or Discord community, host paid online events or streams, sell tickets for offline events, sell digital products, offer paid appointments or video calls, receive tips from your clients or followers, and manage customers with a built-in CRM featuring client profiles and powerful marketing tools.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
When you start a business, it shouldn’t be only about money—you need real passion for what you’re building. The journey is often much longer than you expect, so you must have enough energy to keep moving forward, even when the rewards are minimal or nonexistent.

Second, it’s often better to work for someone else first. Gain experience, build expertise, and then start something in the same niche—especially if you believe you can bring a new approach, innovation, product, or higher quality of service. This can save you years.

Third, move forward, analyze, adjust, and move forward again—and never give up. That part is critical.
