Daily Inspiration: Meet Cherell Bailey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cherell Bailey.

Hi Cherell, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always had an eye for all things fashion. I started modeling right after college back in 2014. I had friends who had clothing lines and who felt I was great in front of the camera so that helped jump start me. I love helping small businesses and would love to support and model for their brands. I then began walking in fashion shows. I did Fashion Week and a Breast Cancer Awareness Show. I have always been body positive and am grateful that the modeling world has been so accepting of all shapes and sizes. People like Tyra Banks with America’s Next Top Model and Khloe Kardashian with her Good American Jeans have helped paved the way for redefining beauty standards. One thing about myself is I do not like to look like everyone else. If I can stand out, I will simply do that. I started bedazzling jackets, my Disney ears, sneakers. Sparkles just make everything better! I love throwing on a pair of sneakers with my Disney outfits and use characters as inspiration to come up with an outfit, known as Disney Bounding. Just recently, I expressed my love for pro wrestling and got creative with throwing caution inspired outfits together like my favorite female wrestler Naomi. It has been a wonderful journey using social media as a voice to amplify what I love!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When it comes to bedazzling things, I tend to become such a perfectionist. If a rhinestone is not glued the right way I will take it off and start over. Even though most times it may be for myself, it is my project with my name on it. When creating a Disney Bound outfit, it’s a entire process within my mind. I think of a character, look at what I have already in my closet and that is where the fun begins. Due to me being a SneakerHead, I will always have a pair of sneakers on with my outfit. I put together every day clothes using colors and accessories that draws inspiration from a character without wearing a full costume. I am learning that most times what you wear is a representation of you and to always have fun with it!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in bedazzling. I love to put rhinestones on most things and people have been interested in me bedazzling things for them. I originally would do it just for myself and would post items on social media and got praise about it. I am working on making this a small business and working on the steps to make it a successful start up. I would say that I am most proud of how long it takes me. When I am in the zone, and do not have much to do for the day, bedazzling can take me a few hours. My most successful project is a SmackDown fist jacket I did from a brand Chalkline.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory would have to be growing up in the 90’s and connection. I loved to hangout with the kids in my neighborhood and rollerblade. When the street lights came on, I better had been inside. Things just felt more simplified. I loved catching up on the phone, watching Disney Channel, going to Walt Disney World, so many good times. My mom would make a lot of my clothes, so I did not have a same outfit as anyone else. I thing that’s why I have such a love for fashion!
