Hi Lana, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up, health and wellness was always my thing. I played sports in high school and now I do Hyrox and other competitions. I’ve just always cared about taking care of myself.

We bought Glow Up Med Spa in Orange County because my dad owned businesses his whole life and was always a businessman. When he passed, it changed our lives. At the time, we had a candle company but his passing gave us motivation to keep going and make him proud. At the time, my son was just 1.5 years old and I told my husband – we’re doing this, we’re building something our son and future kids can see and be proud of. Something that shows them you can actually chase what you love and make it work.

The last five years I’ve tried eight different businesses. Some worked, some failed. Marketing was where we always learned the hard lessons. Glow Up has definitely been the biggest challenge because how do you tell people about Botox or fillers without sounding like a used car salesman?
Eventually I realized nobody wants to be sold to, they want to feel like you understand and hear them.

That’s what I love about Glow Up in Santa Ana. I wanted a med spa that wasn’t just about cheap injections. I wanted the expertise AND the experience from sought after nurse injectors.

Glow Up started basic – Botox, laser hair removal, HydraFacials. Then added the newer treatments like Morpheus8, Virtue RF, and CoolPeel. We understand that your face isn’t the same as the next person’s face, so each treatment is customized to exactly what they need.

We’re looking into opening more locations in Miami, New York, and Austin in the next few years. I want it still feel like a family environment and not some corporate chain where nobody cares about the clients. My husband thinks I’ve lost it. Maybe I have. But I’m not doing it if it means turning into some corporate chain where nobody cares about the clients. Because bad b*tches love botox.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not – it hasn’t been smooth . But the struggles taught me more than the wins.
Orange County has literally hundreds of locations. When someone googles “Med Spa Orange County”, we’re competing with several other locations but I can confidently say that no one else can compare to our care for patients and our aesthetic.

Hiring was difficult, too. I needed injectors who had the skills but also had amazing customer service and care. Someone who can nail a lip filler and also actually listen when a client is nervous. Most people are one or the other, not both. I am happy to say that the nurses at Glow Up are strong in both areas. They care about your concerns and are on your team to help you reach your beauty goals.

Grieving the loss of my dad while trying to build a future made everything heavier. Some days I didn’t want to show up. I know he would’ve told me to stop whining and get back to work in the most loving way, of course.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
I used to think business was about having the slickest pitch or the best marketing campaign. I was wrong. It’s about actually giving a damn about the person in front of you.

Early on, I’d try to push treatments because I thought that’s what you’re supposed to do – maximize revenue per client. But I’d watch people leave and never come back. They felt sold to.

Now? If someone comes in asking for lip filler and I don’t think they need it, I tell them. People tend to appreciate it and trust me more.

Also, your reputation is everything. One angry client will tell 20 people. One happy client might tell 3. So you better make sure way more people are happy than upset.
The other big one is you can’t do everything yourself. Hiring people smarter than me in their areas was the best decision I made. Let the experts be experts.

And honestly? Stop caring what other med spas are doing. I wasted so much time worrying about competitors. Now I just focus on us and our clients. Everyone else can do their thing.
