Today we’d like to introduce you to Ruslan Vladimir Tuaev.
Hi Ruslan Vladimir, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Other Objects started for two main reasons – my desire to start something of my own here in the US, and my hope to give back to the local LA artist community. With so much of the creative industry seeping seemingly through our fingers, running away to Texas, Nevada, and New York, many are claiming that there is soon going to be nothing left here but headquarters.
I disagree. Los Angeles has such a vibrant and rich community, and as someone that moved here 3.5 years ago from London, I have found myself slowly falling in love with this city. I graduated with a Master’s from CalArts, and I am now working on putting it to use by focusing my work on supporting other artists, designers, and musicians whose base work is here in L.A. The goal is to make sure that this conversation about the dying creative scene itself goes away, and we breathe new life into the industry.
There are many of us here who want to make it big, but the way in which we go about it has to change, and that’s why I believe more young people should be starting their businesses, pushing forward their own knowledge and skills as not only desirable, but also properly structured and presentable.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There’s a few struggles here and there. Getting your name out there is a big one. We’ve been lucky to have already put some work on the books, and are now working with Grammy nominated clients.
That said, having a local community of artists and producers really helps. Being able to rely on those you can simultaneously call your colleagues and friends is the best feeling, and I have been blessed to have a co-founder who is both of those things, Jo Siri.
As you know, we’re big fans of Other Objects. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Other Objects is a creative production and talent representation agency. We’re split into two sections – the first being the production side, where we help creative projects from pre-production to main production itself. Post-production is something we currently don’t focus on, as we wan to nail what we’re best at, not spread ourselves thin. We love to work on music videos, live shows and tours, and are eager to stretch into the short and long-form film industry next. Our second half is representation of those who primarily work in the backstage. That’s your set, audio, and costume designers, lighting technicians, UX and graphic designers, and so on.
Everyone involved is in their early to mid twenties, but individually have at least 7 years of professional experience each. Those of us involved have been raised in the creative world, and we are eager to carry on those legacies. Since we’re new as an official company, I’m proud of how efficiently all of the company-side elements were put together.
We specialize in concept development, design and manufacturing, and creative representation / connections – we want to be able to connect companies and creators with the tools and people who will make their ideas come alive.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
That we’re already up and running! The company itself has been formalised only in October, but we’re already successfully working and have an impressive client roster, but we’re always looking for more.
