Conversations with Kemy Siala

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kemy Siala.

Hi Kemy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I come from a musical family. My dad played bass guitar and drums, and my mom used to sing. I was always around my dad when he was playing. One day, while he was practicing at home, I was on the floor playing with toys or watching TV. He set his bass down on the couch and went to his room to grab something. I picked up the bass and started playing what he had just been playing—and the rest was history.

My dad definitely guided me and taught me how to play properly. I grew up playing in church my whole life, and as I got older, I started branching out into different styles of music and exploring different scenes in the city to improve. From there, I began building a name for myself, and things really started to take off.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. There are so many amazing musicians in the world, and you have to constantly find ways to separate yourself in order to stand out. There are high moments when you’re incredibly busy, and there are low moments when things aren’t moving at all. It’s really a matter of knowing how to navigate both the highs and the lows.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a touring and session bass player. My main focus is bass guitar, but I also specialize in music directing, producing, and arranging/programming music. What I’m most proud of is that I worked my way to where I am today. I’m the type of person who will always bet on myself because I see the vision and understand the long-term benefits that come from doing so.

What sets me apart from others is how much I value networking—whether it’s connecting with people on social media or building relationships in person.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Your timing is your timing , trust God
