Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Rhey .
Hi Jasmine Rhey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always wanted to change the world for the better through music, song and the way I live my life. My formal educational accomplishments are in linguistics. I love languages and world cultures, and I love music. You’ll see my YouTube is littered with cover songs in Spanish, French, Arabic, Serbocroatian…and English.
I’ve been performing for 26 years as a solo artist, in groups and in stage musicals. I released an all original R&B album in 2009 before moving to Egypt for a year. I came back to the states anxious to mix some international sounds in my original works, and I’m continually inspired to expand my repertoire.
I’m currently living in Europe, traveling and absorbing the European lifestyle, studying in two vocal programs while writing my new album.
Highlights:
1999 – First solo stage performance
2004 – Began writing original music
2006 – Passed three rounds of American Idol auditions
2006 & 2007 – Crowned Miss Black and Gold in the UNF Alpha Phi Alpha pageant
2009 – Released a full-length original album
2009 – 2011 – Performed and went on domestic and international promotional tours
2012 – Awarded Duval Diamond for R&B Artist of the Year
2013 – Awarded Duval Diamond Award for Female Artist of the Year
2013 – Created, coordinated and hosted an annual 5-night music festival in Jacksonville, FL (Friday Night Live Music Festival)
2014 – Awarded BUZZ Magazine Top 30, Under 30: Future Leaders of Jacksonville Award
2014 – 2025 – Released singles
2025 – moved to Slovenia, studied jazz with Emilia Martensson, and vocal technique with Complete Vocal Institute
2025-2026 – working on a new album
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The music industry can be a dark place, if you let it, but fortunately artists have many options to share music with the world.
I’ve come across many opportunities that seemed appealing, but required actions I was not willing to take. Those experiences turned me away from my dreams of being a huge touring artist and more toward finding my own creative artistic outlets — event creation/coordination/promotion — I booked my own stages to perform and hosted parties. I even created a 5-night music festival that ran for four years and gave dozens of musicians a stage to shine on while I hosted (and snuck in a performance of my own)!
I’ve also experienced a fan turn into a stalker. I made the decision to stay off stage for almost ten years because of that one person’s threats. But even through those years, I couldn’t help but to release music online — a fortunate option!
I’m lucky to have the courage and perseverance to continue in music in my own way, and now I’m back on stage with three European performances checked off and many more to come!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As Jasmine Rhey the artist, I’m known for my music and events. My music is eclectic ranging from R&B to Rap, from Pop to Jazz, from Arabic to Slovene. I’m grateful to have had so many influences in my life from all over the world. My new album will highlight all of those experiences — the journey to create it has been one of my most exciting times of growth. I’m so excited to finally have the tools and internal creative direction to release what I’ve always wanted to release from my soul — a genre-free, multilingual collection of music that I love! And from there, I’ll work on coordinating events and stages to share it live!
