Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashton Hammer.
Hi Ashton, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started writing music when i was 15 years old. I grew up in a household where we dealt with a lot of mental health issues. My mom had bi polar and that came with a lot of challenges so ultimately i turned to writing music more as a journal or a way to express myself. I always listened to music with a lot of depth and noticed that it was something that was calling me at a very young age. With all of the trauma and events that led to dark spaces, my music would pull me out of that. I started a group with one of my buddies called “The Sauceboys”. We had a good 3 year run where we accumulated a pretty good following This was during the Soundcloud era and it was pretty special to feel like you had some real fans who enjoyed those emotions you held in for so long. I later turned into a solo artist and kept going, using the name “Ashton Martin”. That part of the journey was hard because i had a lot of healing to do and instead of listening to my own lyrics, i chose drinking and partying instead. I had a lot of abandonment issues that i never faced and ultimately that led to feeding addictions with woman and lust. Fast forward to a couple of years later and i realized that i couldnt be this numb person anymore and decided to create a Tik Tok account and go by the name “Vendetta Lust” and for obvious reasons, the name fit perfect. I wanted to promote the love that i wanted to give to myself but also offer to the people that felt like they dealt with the same habits. Here we are now and we have a hell of a long way to go but my goal was never stardom. It was always passion and message.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has definitely not been a smooth road lol. I have dealt with a lot of speed bumps and habits that ive needed to break. The biggest one being lust. I dealt with a big addiction to attention and lust. This led to me drinking and partying and taking massive steps backward in my music career.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in bringing a dark rnb, mixed with a bit of pop. A lot of my work has to do with the sexual addictions that come with abandoning your wounds. I talk a lot about love and how we can create a space where being in love is beautiful and chivalry isnt dead. I almost felt like a lot of my life i have manifested whatever has came, good or bad. Lately its been a lot of good. I would write songs about a love that i always wanted to find in a partner and I am currently with that partner that i painted in my head.. its so crazy but so beautiful. I do believe that the voice, sound and melodies i have created are unique to me. Thats what i take pride in.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I listen to a lot of interviews with artists. My favorite artists and i like to gain inspo and education on their creative process. My favorite book is “Green Lights” by Matthew McConaughey. Its like a documentary on his life but he highlights the pro and con choices along the way. I focus on presence as much as i possibly can. My morning routine is breathwork, prayer, journal and getting the body moving. I am a huge advocate for physical health and going to the gym. These are things that keep me present and i call them my non negotiables.
Pricing:
- Feature: negotiable but always wanting to work with other artists.
- Songwriting: also negotiable. Ultimately i would not consider my prices expensive at all.
