Hidden Gems: Meet Mitch Dang of Naked Lotus Skincare

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mitch Dang.

Hi Mitch, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I grew up believing in hard work, resourcefulness, and the idea that you take care of what matters. That mindset shaped everything for me. Before I ever created skincare, I spent years teaching. Education taught me how to see people clearly, how to support them, and how to meet them where they are. I carry that same heart centered approach into motherhood and eventually into my business.

My journey into natural skincare started because I needed something simple and effective for myself and my family. I was tired of costly products that overpromised and under delivered. I wanted real ingredients that made sense and were safe for my body and my family. When I discovered the power of tallow and botanicals, it felt like coming home. My skin responded, my kids’ skin responded, and suddenly I realized I had tapped into something that women were quietly searching for, too.
Naked Lotus Skincare began in the most humble way. Late nights in my kitchen, while juggling homeschooling and being an active sports parents with my husband. I never set out to build a brand. I set out to solve a personal need, and that grew into a mission to bring women back to what’s essential.

The lotus is my symbol because it mirrors my story. Growth through challenge, rising through the mud, and choosing to bloom anyway. I built this business while raising five kids, balancing life and responsibilities, and learning how to trust my own voice. Every step has been a mix of grit, curiosity, and heart.

Today, Naked Lotus Skincare reflects everything I value: simplicity, connection, and community with the belief that every woman deserves to feel confident in her natural beauty. My back story is real and earned, guided by the same purpose that started all of this. I want women to feel supported, seen, and cared for. Naked Lotus Skincare is my platform to help women honor their wisdom and presence and to reclaim the power and energy they already carry within them.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, not at all. Starting a business is one of the deepest forms of personal work an individual can step into. It will test you, stretch you, and make you question everything, including your own capacity and existence. There were moments when I truly wondered if I had made the wrong choice. There were days that pushed me to the edge of exhaustion and emotion. Creating a business from scratch, from an idea, is both one of the hardest and most fulfilling things I have ever done.

But even through the challenges, I stayed the course. My family and my husband are the heartbeat behind why I want to see this business thrive, but my passion and drive are what keep me moving forward. Naked Lotus Skincare has become a reflection of that resilience. It reminds me that committing to something you believe in, even when the path is hard, creates growth you cannot gain any other way. This is the lesson I hope to pass on to my children. No matter what is placed in front of you, you can do hard things. You might break into a million pieces along the way, but that kind of growth builds strength, resilience, and the confidence to succeed in life.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Naked Lotus Skincare is a handcrafted skincare business rooted in simplicity, intention, and the power of natural ingredients. I create small batch, tallow-based products that support the skin’s natural rhythm and help women return to what is essential.
Tallow is one of those ingredients people don’t talk about enough, even though it has been used to care for the skin for generations. It is exciting to see tallow gaining momentum again and building a community of people who can appreciate how real and effective it is.
So, what is tallow? Simply, tallow is a nutrient rich fat that is rendered from grass fed beef, and it is as natural as it comes. Its velvety texture closely mirrors the oils our own skin produces, which is why it feels so intuitive and nourishing when you apply it. The skin recognizes it instantly and knows how to use it.
Inside tallow are the same vitamins and fatty acids our skin needs to stay strong and nourished. Vitamins A, D, E, and K, along with barrier loving lipids, all work together to repair dryness, calm irritation, and restore that soft, healthy glow. It is a whole ingredient that nourishes on a deeper level without the added fillers or synthetics that often overwhelm the skin.
This is why I use tallow. It is simple, it is effective, and it brings us back to ingredients that were always meant to support us. Skincare does not have to be complicated. Sometimes the most natural things are the ones that make the biggest difference.
My business is built on the belief that skincare should feel grounding, not overwhelming, and that real nourishment comes from ingredients our skin actually understands and craves. Naked Lotus Skincare is a community centered space that encourages others to reconnect with nature and feel confident in their skin with simple, effective care.
I believe we stand out because it is built on intention, not trends. I handcraft every product in small batches with a focus on simplicity, quality, and real results. I do not add fillers, fragrances, or trendy ingredients that distract from what actually works. My formulations stay close to nature and close to what the skin already understands. What also makes Naked Lotus Skincare different is the heart behind it. I am not creating products just to sell them. I create products as a way to help women reconnect with themselves, feel confident in their natural beauty, and return to a skincare routine that feels good. My background as an educator shows up in the way I teach women about their skin, how to support it, and how to simplify. That guidance is part of the brand. What I bring to the table as a woman, mother, wife, educator, and founder is a blend of craftsmanship, education, and emotional connection. I focus on the whole woman, not just her skin. Every jar is made with intention, every ingredient is chosen with purpose, and every product serves as a reminder that women deserve care that is honest, effective, and rooted in compassion and understanding.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Starting a business and betting entirely on yourself is one of the biggest risks you can take. Many people never move past the idea stage because the fear of failure, financial strain, or the uncertainty feels too heavy. I understand that and can appreciate those emotions. I actually consider myself new to taking risks. When my children were younger, I never would have stepped into entrepreneurship. It wasn’t because I lacked ambition. It was because my responsibilities as a young stay at home mom were demanding and my focus was on them and raising tiny humans.
My kids are older now (8, 11, 13, 15, & 22) and more independent, and I have the space to realign with the passions I put on hold. Motherhood will always be my first priority and I honor that role deeply, but this season allows me to pursue my own goals with clarity and intention. What makes this even more meaningful is that my children get to watch me build something from the ground up. They get to see what smart risk taking looks like, what perseverance feels like, and how a dream can grow when you commit to it.
So yes, I am a risk taker because I choose to live fully and give my best effort to building something meaningful. The greatest risk, in my eyes, is reaching the end of your life and wondering what might have happened if you had just tried. I want to be ninety years old knowing I took the chance, followed my purpose, and saw the outcome for myself, whether it was smooth or messy. What matters most is that I honored the dream. Setting impossible goals and working toward them is not a risk. It is life in action. It is choosing to move with intention instead of remaining still.
