Today we’d like to introduce you to Ross Gasworth.
Hi Ross, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was born in Boston, MA, and grew up in upstate New York and Michigan. I went to school in Ohio and Texas, then moved to Southern California in 2013. I’ve been playing the cello since I was 3 1/2, and now I perform on soundtrack recordings for film and TV and co-direct a vibrant arts non-profit based in Lake Forest, CA, called Chamber Music | OC. I live in Orange County with my amazing wife, Michelle, our three wonderful kids, and our adorable dog.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I was lucky to have an extraordinarily supportive family during my younger years, and an extraordinarily supportive family now, as an adult! That makes all the difference – and I know how fortunate I am. There were a few years during and just after college when I wasn’t sure what direction I was headed with music, but those were struggles that could only be sorted out with time and experience. I worked in a lot of areas – a startup, a piano trio, numerous orchestras, teaching – but am fulfilled by what I do now!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a cellist and arts administrator. In my studio session work, I perform alongside some of the world’s greatest musicians, sight-reading music we’ve never seen before at the highest level. The work is both thrilling and challenging, constantly inspiring me to grow as a cellist. I have the privilege of collaborating with remarkable artists and contributing to some of the most significant media projects of our time, including movies such as Zootopia 2, Avatar: The Way of Water and Fire and Ash, Superman, and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, and artists including Elton John, Ariana Grande, Barbra Streisand, Justin Bieber, Adele, and Paul McCartney. It’s a joy to work with colleagues and contractors who hold themselves – and everyone around them- to the highest standards, while still finding humor in the day-to-day nuances of our craft. Every day is different and exciting!
Chamber Music | OC is a leading non-profit arts organization based in Lake Forest, CA, and I’ve been fortunate to be part of it since its founding in 2012. The organization is dedicated to advancing the art of chamber music through performance, education, and community engagement. It brings world-class performances to the greater Orange County area, featuring both rising stars and established veterans, offers educational programs for pre-college and adult musicians, and works with local schools and organizations to make music accessible to all. My role encompasses both artistic and administrative responsibilities, and I’m continually motivated by my incredible co-workers and friends – some of whom I’ve been performing and collaborating with for over two decades – who are the engine behind this organization’s remarkable impact. The upcoming 2026/27 season will mark Chamber Music | OC’s 15th anniversary!
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
