Meet Prerana Rai of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Prerana Rai.

Hi Prerana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started working on Melrose back in 2018, and from the beginning I felt a deep connection to the community and the energy of the neighborhood. I used to dream that one day I’d have a place of my own on Melrose a space where people felt cared for, understood, and welcomed.

When the pandemic hit in 2020, the business I worked for struggled like many others. We shut down for months, and even after reopening, things were difficult. By early 2022, the owners decided they no longer wanted to continue and offered me the chance to take over. To be completely honest, the business was in rough shape at that time. It was still during the pandemic, nothing felt certain, and taking it over felt like a huge gamble.

But I believed in myself. Something told me that if I committed to my craft, stayed dedicated, and continued treating people with care, I could rebuild it. So I took the chance and I’m so grateful that I did.

That’s how Rose Aesthetics came to life. Everything I’ve built since then has come from hard work, consistency, and a genuine passion for helping people feel their best. I listen to my clients, I understand their needs, and I make sure they leave feeling more confident and seen.

It hasn’t been an easy journey, but it’s been the most rewarding one. I’m proud of how far the business has come and even more proud to continue serving the Melrose/West Hollywood community the same place where I once only dreamed of having my own studio.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. In fact, the beginning was extremely rough. When my previous employer offered me the opportunity to take over the business, it was because things weren’t going well the business was in bad shape, and they no longer wanted to continue. I knew exactly what I was walking into, and taking it over felt like a complete gamble.

On top of that, the pandemic was still lingering. Nothing felt stable, and I had no idea if we might have to shut down again or for how long. There was a very real fear that things could go downhill quickly. In early 2022, business was so slow that I had to cover rent and expenses out of my own pocket just to keep the doors open. I was working six days a week, with almost no personal life.

The financial pressure was heavy, and the mental stress wasn’t easy either. But looking back, those struggles shaped me. They forced me to grow, stay disciplined, and trust in my ability to rebuild something from the ground up. Those early challenges became the foundation for the success I have today.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Rose Aesthetics, my work centers around enhancing natural beauty with precision, care, and a personalized touch. I offer a variety of services including eyebrow threading, shaping, tinting, lamination, lash lifts, lash tinting, facials, and waxing. While I’m trained in multiple areas, threading is my specialty it’s the service I’m most known for and the one I’ve become deeply passionate about.

What I’m most proud of is not just the technical side of my work, but the way I approach it. I put a lot of heart into what I do. I’m dedicated, compassionate, and extremely attentive to each person who sits in my chair. Brows are such a personal thing everyone has different preferences, facial features, and comfort levels so I make it a priority to listen, understand, and customize every service to fit the individual.

I believe that’s what sets me apart. My focus isn’t just on the result, but on the entire experience. Clients leave not only with beautiful brows, but feeling confident, heard, and taken care of. That’s why so many of them return and why a huge part of my growth has been through word-of-mouth referrals from clients who trust me enough to send their friends and family.

At the end of the day, my work is about connection and confidence. Helping someone feel better about themselves even in a small way is truly the most rewarding part of what I do.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
When it comes to finding a mentor or building a strong network, my biggest advice is to stay open, genuine, and proactive. In the beauty industry and really in any industry the best connections come from real relationships, not forced interactions. I’ve learned that people respond to honesty, passion, and consistency more than anything else.

For me, what worked well wasn’t actively searching for a mentor, but learning from the people around me. I paid attention to individuals who inspired me whether it was their work ethic, their customer service, or the way they navigated challenges. Sometimes mentorship doesn’t come in the form of one official person; sometimes it’s small pieces of wisdom you pick up from different people along the way.

Networking, in my experience, works the same way. I built my network by treating people with kindness, listening, and showing genuine interest in their work and their stories. A lot of the opportunities I’ve received came from simple, organic interactions clients referring others, other professionals recognizing my dedication, or fellow business owners offering advice and support.

My advice is don’t be afraid to put yourself out there, but do it in a way that feels authentic to you. Show your passion, be consistent in your work, be respectful, and stay curious. The right people will naturally gravitate toward that energy, and the right opportunities will follow.
