Today we’d like to introduce you to Oana Savu.
Hi Oana, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved creating things by hand, and jewelry felt like the perfect medium to express that passion. The idea of making my own pieces excited me, so I began experimenting and crafting for myself. Very quickly, I realised this could become part of my life. Soon, what started as a hobby, turned into a brand the moment I realized that people were responding emotionally to my pieces, and encouraged me to share it beyond my studio. Today, I create handcrafted jewelry, specializing in nature-inspired designs made with unexpected materials such as silk, beetle wings, fossils, and gemstones.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey hasn’t always been smooth. Running a creative business comes with many challenges, especially balancing the artistic side with the administrative side – paperwork, logistics, and the constant wish to grow while staying true to my vision. There were moments when I doubted myself or felt overwhelmed, but each challenge pushed me to refine my craft, learn new skills, and build a stronger foundation for my brand. There are times when I can’t work behind the jewelry bench, and that can make me feel like inspiration is slipping away. Creating is what fuels me, so when I’m away from it for too long, it becomes challenging.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My designs always begin with emotion – how I want someone to feel when they wear the piece. I gravitate toward elements that express delicacy, movement, and storytelling. As a designer, I am best known for my whimsical, ethereal designs, especially my signature collections: the Silk Butterflies and the Beetles. These creations reflect my passion for turning rare, natural elements into wearable art. What sets my work apart is the uniqueness of the designs, the unexpected materials I use, the attention to detail, and the dedication to slow craftsmanship.
What I’m most proud of is the emotional connection people form with my jewelry. Customers choose my pieces for weddings, meaningful milestones, and even moments of healing. Knowing that something crafted in my atelier can become part of someone’s most important memories – that is what keeps me creating every day.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I’ve been fortunate to have a supportive family. Together with my husband, we are running this business and putting our souls into every single step of its growth. While I don’t have a formal mentor, I often think of my younger self as a guide – the little Oana who never imagined she would one day run her own jewelry business, collaborate with women around the world, and have her designs worn in places she may never visit, by people she may never meet. Remembering her keeps me grounded and reminds me how far I’ve come. Beyond that, my family and close friends have been incredible cheerleaders, encouraging me to take risks and trust my vision. Many of my clients have been advocates in their own way, sharing their love for my brand, gifting pieces to others, and helping the brand reach new people around the world. Every one of these connections has been essential in shaping Oana Savu into what it is today.
