Conversations with Trevan McClure

Today we’d like to introduce you to Trevan McClure.

Hi Trevan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey began when I was born to the sound of my dad’s own music playing in the delivery room. From that point on, music continued to be a central theme and figure in my life.
I was beatboxing as a child, playing drums on anything I could, and listening to my walkman religiously. I grew up to the sound of my dad playing his acoustic guitar around the house all the time and my mom’s amazing music collection in the background.
My first foray was at the tail end of middle school, playing drums in a band with friends. I started picking guitar up and started my first band as a songwriter at the tail end of high-school called 36 Alterations.
The subsequent years saw me venture into producing other artists and myself out of home studios, being somewhat of a session drummer for bands project’s, and continuing to expand my range as a songwriter and artist myself.
Since 2015, I’ve released about ten personal artist projects/albums, and collaborated on countless others, including co-writing two songs with Grammy Winning Multi-Platinum Artist Macy Gray, and American Idol Contestant Drew Ryn.
A highlight album was my 2022 album ‘Brand New Start,’ produced with Mikal Blue (Colbie Caillat, Jason Mraz), which featured a single, ‘Cry Your Eyes Out,’ that garnered international radio attention from Lluvia FM Global; even achieving eight weeks at #1 on their Top Charts Show.
I’ve also been fortunate enough to receive licensing placements with Wendy’s, T-Mobile, the NFL, NBA, Young and the Restless, and a few others.
My most recent single, ‘Getchu Right,’ is actually a re-production of a previously released song that was revamped with producer/engineer JC Gariano (Olivia Rodrigo, JellyRoll, Billy Joel). Like many other projects, I played the majority of the instruments on it, including Drums, Bass, and Guitar.
I never quite know what the future will hold but I will do my best to continue being as present and available to what wants to manifest.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I reflect back, I do continue to see how even the challenges and struggles were critical to give me a better sense of who I am, what my personal preferences are, and how to better appreciate the gifts.
In so many ways, it has been a very smooth and fortuitous road, with doors opening or opportunities presenting themselves unexpectedly or seemingly by magic.
In other ways, it has been an incredibly difficult and challenging road, riddled with self-doubt, “missed opportunities,” closed doors, and “woulda shoulda coulda’s.”
I would say the most consistent challenge for me personally has been not knowing when it’s better to let something go or to hold on in the midst of the challenges. Other times, it’s been having doors close, gigs fall away, or having a fall out with someone and tending to personalize it (always assuming it was my fault or I should have done something differently).

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My main focus has been music: as an artist, songwriter, and producer though the multi-faceted nature of what I do has stretched out into all forms of entertainment; emceeing and acting (especially with social-media).
I’m very proud that I’ve managed to be and represent a positive attitude and perspective that has had a positive impact on almost anyone I’ve interacted with.
I’m known for bringing light and levity to most environments I step into.

What’s next?
I just returned from a two week trip in Europe and it’s really fueled a desire to prioritize touring and traveling more.
