Today we’d like to introduce you to DC Wedding Collective.
Hi DC Wedding Collective, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always enjoyed telling a great story. I remember begging my English teachers back in High School to allow me and a couple of friends to create a video instead of writing an essay about a topic. Eventually, it paid off after winning a contest from the City, earning me 300 bucks, which at the time opened my eyes to the possibility of my hobby becoming a way to make some cash. After realizing I wasn’t the best at soccer, I decided to drop out of college and pursue my passion for creating videos full-time. I went all in and managed to get the ball rolling by networking with small businesses, brands, weddings, non-profits, and others. However, weddings were the one thing I kept coming back to because of the energy; it was different: real emotions, high stakes, it was a new story every single time. I was hooked.
In October of this year, my buddy Daniel and I teamed up to create a one-stop shop for couples looking to capture their wedding day. He specializes in photography, while I focus on filmmaking. It’s grown faster than we expected through word of mouth, but we’re keeping it small and selective because at the end of the day we still want every wedding to feel like running with friends, except we’re the ones capturing the best day of their lives.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Building DC Wedding Collective has so far been one of the most enjoyable ventures I’ve been a part of; I think that has to mean something. Teaming up with an experienced photographer like Daniel was a breeze; I trust his vision as much as he trusts mine.
As you know, we’re big fans of DC Wedding Collective. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’d say what we’re most proud of is building an idea from scratch and watching the fruits of our labor flourish. I’ve had a lot of side quest ventures, but having an experienced teammate makes this even more enjoyable. We’re able to bounce ideas off each other, and we genuinely love what we do. Most importantly, we learn from our mistakes and help uplift each other. We treat every project like it’s the only one we’re shooting all year.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
It’s pretty simple, just be nice. You’d be surprised by the number of referrals I’ve received just by remembering someone’s name, or even their birthday. Networking is a must when running a small business like ours.
