Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Lim, Kristen Lim.
Hi Heather Lim, Kristen Lim, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
FM2050 began in 2011 when my mother, Kristen Lim, opened a small boutique in Orange County with one simple hope — to create a space where women could take time for themselves. She believed clothes could do more than decorate a body; they could help a woman feel confident, at ease, and beautiful in her own skin. For women who didn’t know where to start with fashion, she wanted to help them dress. For those who loved it already, she wanted FM2050 to feel like a place of calm — a retreat where they could enjoy, explore, and reconnect with their sense of self.
I joined her in 2022 to continue that mission. My focus has been to build on her foundation — expanding the brand’s presence while holding onto the sincerity that shaped its beginning. Together, we’ve worked to create not just a fashion label, but a brand that celebrates women’s individuality — the idea that beauty isn’t about perfection or trend, but about confidence, comfort, and authenticity.
At its core, FM2050 is a story of women supporting women — of finding strength in softness and purpose in beauty. It’s a space built by two generations, for every woman who needs a quiet moment to feel like herself again. FM2050 is also based on connection — between mother and daughter, designer and customer, simplicity and beauty. It’s a story of continuity, of learning from each other, and of building something that feels both familiar and new.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s never been a simple road. My mom started FM2050 with very little, relying mostly on instinct, creativity, and the relationships she built with each customer who walked through the door. Every piece was designed with care, and every conversation mattered — that’s what shaped the heart of the brand: learning about what our community wanted and providing in the highest quality we could.
When the pandemic hit, it was an uncertain time for everyone. But for us, it was also when we realized just how strong our community truly was. We had no real online presence back then — yet our customers kept showing up. About 80% of our customers are returning customers, and their loyalty is what helped us not only endure but grow stronger through that season.
When I joined in 2022, I faced a personal crossroads — choosing to walk away from law school and pour myself fully into FM2050. My biggest challenge has been translating what my mom built in-store — that sense of warmth, trust, and belonging — into the digital space, while keeping the same heart behind it all. Growth has brought new challenges, but it’s also shown me that a brand built on real connection can withstand anything.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
FM2050 is a women’s fashion brand built on the belief that clothes should make you feel confident, comfortable, and beautiful in your own skin. Founded and led by women, FM2050 is more than a brand — it’s a community that celebrates real life women in all their seasons.
Our name stands for For Me 2050 — a reflection of our philosophy that style should grow with you, from your 20s to your 50s and beyond. We design sustainable, high-quality pieces made to last — not trend-based, but timeless. Every item is created with intention: flattering silhouettes, thoughtful details, and fabrics that age beautifully. We want our clothes to feel like something you reach for year after year — pieces that evolve with you, rather than expire with the season.
What sets us apart is our honesty and our relationship with our customers. About 80% of our customer base are returning clients — women who trust us because we keep it real. We don’t upsell, overpromise, or tell you something looks good when it doesn’t. Our goal has never been to make you spend more — it’s to make you feel seen, understood, and cared for.
What I’m personally most proud of is that I never have to pretend. I get to show up with sincerity — recommending pieces I genuinely believe in, celebrating the women who walk through our doors, and building friendships that feel real.
That authenticity is the heart of FM2050. It’s why women stay with us, grow with us, and trust us. And it’s what we hope every reader takes away — that FM2050 is a place created for you, with honesty, heart, and the kind of beauty that lasts.
That’s what we’re most proud of as a brand — that FM2050 has become a trusted space for women to rediscover what dressing “for me” really means.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Los Angeles is the people. There’s a warmth here — a sense of openness, individuality, and care — that has always felt like home to me. The weather, of course, doesn’t hurt either. There’s something about waking up to sunshine almost year-round that makes you want to take care of yourself and the people around you. LA has this unique way of encouraging both self-love and community, and that’s something I really cherish.
If I had to choose something I like least, it would probably be the fact that we don’t get snow. I genuinely love winter coats and the whole “snow outfit” moment — so sometimes I wish LA would give us a real “white Christmas” winter just once in a while.
