Today we’d like to introduce you to Alina Krasovskaya.
Hi Alina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In 2022, my husband, Alexander Romanchikov, and I embarked on a transformative journey, moving from Saint Petersburg to California with our 1-year-old twins. The transition was challenging as we navigated the complexities of our new life in a different culture. We were fortunate to receive a warm welcome from Dmitri Kulev, who invited us to join the Dmitri Kulev Classical Ballet Academy as teachers. From the moment we stepped into the studio, we were captivated by the vibrant atmosphere, the students’ incredible talent, and the elaborate organization of the educational process, which fostered an inspiring learning environment.
Fast forward to 2024, when Dmitri and Jennifer Kulev presented us with a remarkable opportunity to take over their business. Filled with enthusiasm, we eagerly accepted their offer. We already knew the students, loved them, and were ready to invest in this studio with all our love and passion.
We feel ourselves responsible for the next generation of dancers. Every day, we strive to give our students the best possible experience and help them reach their full potential.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was a tough time for business changes. We had to meet the expectations of our students and their parents while also learning the business routines. As artistic people, it was challenging to handle all the financial aspects. Plus, we had to raise our boys :).
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We teach ballet to children of various ages every day. Our goal is to maintain a high professional standard and develop genuine professional ballet dancers. To do so, we have set strict discipline and rules for all our students so they can not only enjoy their time but also learn to work hard, be responsible and dependable, and prepare for a career in professional ballet. We also share with them invaluable knowledge gained from the best teachers during our education at the Vaganova Ballet Academy and our careers at the Mariinsky Theatre.
Every year, we put on our wonderful production of The Nutcracker in the winter. In spring, we are staging our annual professional show ‘Momentum,’ which features new choreography and diverse repertoires. This event offers dancers an invaluable opportunity to participate fully in the production process, learn new routines, and perform on the beautiful Irvine Barclay Theatre stage, highlighting their growth and artistry. The next Momentum show will be held on April 10th. Please save the date:)
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was very stubborn but also cheerful. In addition to attending Vaganova Ballet Academy, I graduated from a music school and had a passion for drawing. I also enjoyed choreographing dances for myself and my sister, as well as organizing home concerts.
