Life & Work with Autumn Strier of Irvine, California

Today we’d like to introduce you to Autumn Strier.

Autumn Strier

Hi Autumn, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
When I was young, I benefited greatly from the generosity and support of a community who ensured I was cared for in my times of need. The kindness of those unknown to me had an extraordinary impact on my view of the world, and ultimately set the course I would choose for my life’s work with Miracles for Kids.

I have chosen to serve those in need. Other than raising my three children, it is the most important work I will do. This includes my time as a young girl assisting those with disabilities to my work in college with a battered women’s shelter, all the way to the last 21 years of my life building Miracles for Kids, where I continue to serve serve as Co-Founder and CEO and Board President. We have raised over $60M to stabilize low income families with critically-ill children throughout Southern California and beyond.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My life has been filled with both smooth sailing and rough waters. Life has seasons of both, for all of us.

Some of the most important struggles I have faced are those that have given me the greatest tools though – including learning how to take care of myself at a young age, putting myself through college and graduate school, and the ups and downs that come with adulthood, marriage and family. Today, I continue to walk the fine line of balancing my life as a wife and mother to three incredible kids, and running an organization as impactful as Miracles for Kids is for those in need. I recognize each day how blessed I am to have each.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Over the last 21+ years, I have worked to build a thoughtful and generous community of board members, donors, sponsors and corporate partners who are fiercely loyal to those in need that we serve. Together, we have raised $60M+, and today serve over 450 families throughout the state and beyond. We have built Miracles for Kids one relationship at a time, designing a unique business model that continues to successfully weather nearly two decades of economic and global stability challenges. Those who proudly pledge their unwavering support to Miracles for Kids include an impressive list of business and philanthropic leaders, fueled by passion for serving those in need.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
We all know that you have to take risks to move forward. You do your best to be calculated about them, to garner advice from those around who are experts, to move deliberately rather than fast, but in the end, you cannot grow unless you challenge what is static in your life. Risks are important to take, so yes, I have taken many and no matter the result, there is always a valuable lesson in there.
