Conversations with Peachanda DuBose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Peachanda DuBose.

Hi Peachanda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began writing as a little girl. Writing poetry for my mother and grandmother as gifts for the holidays.

I wrote my first volume of poetry in 2007, but I did not get into writing for the stage until 2009. I began my journey as a serious writer, director and producer late in life, when I was 35 years old.

I now have a 16 year background in theatre and a 5 year background in film, after pivoting into that next chapter of my career, during the global pandemic in 2020.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My challenges have been numerous – from the absence of substantial support and limited resources.

My struggles have varied from extreme periods of homelessness, my strong convictions regarding social issues, in a world (where difference of insight) is not allowed or supported…to industry gatekeeping, mainstream dominance and the over saturation of independent filmmakers, with substandard quality and mass production.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a multiple award winning writer, direct and produce for both stage and film. I’m also the founder and director of an international theatre and film festival, entitled, the PEACH Theatre & Film International Festival.

I carry I strong legacy of excellence in both; the quality of my work as well as the execution of it.

I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve never given up on myself, I’ve made history (multiple ways) in an industry that is very unforgiving and forgetful.

My ingenuity and my commitment to the power of independence is what sets me apart.

What makes you happy?
Creating makes me happy.

Because its then…when I’m in my element. When I write, I give voice to the world around me. When I direct, I bring it to life. When I produce, I introduce it to that same world and inspire it to evolve.
