Community Highlights: Meet Ting Jiang of TheraBox

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ting Jiang.

Hi Ting, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I launched TheraBox while I was working as a therapist and kept seeing the same pattern: women who were incredible at caring for everyone else, but rarely for themselves. At the same time, through my studies in neuroscience, I understood how small, repeatable habits can actually rewire the brain for more joy. The question became: How do we make those habits easy enough to stick? I wanted to create something simple and accessible– a gentle way for people to practice joy-building habits and gradually support better mental health.

I didn’t want self-care to feel like another item on the to-do list. I wanted it to feel easy, inviting, and something you genuinely look forward to. So I created a monthly self-care box that pairs clean, luxurious wellness products with one therapist-approved activity to help build small, sustainable happiness habits over time.

I started in my one-bedroom apartment. Packing boxes in my living room, handwriting notes, and reaching out to vendors one by one. There was no big investor, no blueprint for success– just my meager savings, a mission, and a lot of sincerity around making self-care simple, affordable, and fun.

I didn’t expect the launch to take off the way it did, but the mission resonated deeply with initial members. TheraBox grew quickly through word of mouth and community love. That’s when I realized how many people were craving something like this, and I made the leap to leave my full-time job and build TheraBox full-time and eventually growing a team and a global self-care community.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely not a smooth road but I don’t think entrepreneurship is meant to be. When I started TheraBox, it was just me doing everything: sourcing products, negotiating with vendors, customer support, packing boxes, printing shipping labels… often all in the same hour. But the hardest challenges usually came during growth spurts. When we suddenly scaled, we had to learn shipping operations, inventory forecasting, warehouse coordination, and all the unglamorous behind-the-scenes systems that keep a business running. None of that was in my therapy textbooks so I had to learn fast, make mistakes publicly, and keep going.

There were also emotional challenges. When your mission is rooted in well-being and care, you care deeply about your customers and your team. Learning how to scale without burning out myself required the exact same lesson we teach our subscribers: self-care can’t be optional.

We’ve been impressed with TheraBox, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
TheraBox is a self-care subscription and gifting company designed to make well-being feel simple, joyful, and accessible. Every month, we curate a themed box filled with clean, full-sized wellness products (think skincare, bath, aromatherapy, lifestyle goods), and pair it with one therapist-approved activity rooted in neuroscience and positive psychology. The goal is to help people build small, repeatable happiness habits that support emotional well-being over time.

What we’re really known for is turning self-care into a ritual rather than a chore. So many people know they should take time for themselves, but don’t know where to start, or feel guilty prioritizing it. TheraBox removes the overwhelm by giving you a gentle, ready-made way to unwind, reflect, and reconnect with yourself each month.

What sets us apart is the heart behind the curation. Every item is chosen with intention. Not just because it’s “cute” or trending, but because it supports nervous system regulation, mood elevation, sensory grounding, or relaxation. And the therapeutic activity is where the transformation really happens; it’s simple, doable, and backed by real psychology research.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud that TheraBox has become a comfort-space for people. We often hear from customers who say our box arrived at the exact moment they needed a reminder to be gentle with themselves. During burnout, grief, transitions, new motherhood, or just everyday stress. The emotional connection is what matters most to us.

If there’s one thing I want readers to know, it’s that self-care doesn’t have to be complicated, expensive, or performative. It can be one small moment a day. A slow breath. A soft ritual. A little reminder that your joy matters and that you deserve to feel good in your life, not just after you’ve checked off every box on your to-do list. Prioritizing our mental and physical health is the best thing we can do for ourselves and those around us.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
In the early days, I didn’t really have a business circle. I was a first-generation college student, and none of my friends were starting companies at the time so my first “mentors” were actually podcasts and books. I listened to founders talk about their mistakes, pivots, and mindset shifts while driving to work, packing boxes, or waiting in line at the post office. Honestly, that was my business school.

Because of that, my biggest piece of advice is: your mentor doesn’t need to be someone you know personally. You can learn from voices in your earbuds and pages in front of you. The key is being intentional about surrounding yourself with the mindset and thinking of people who are already where you want to go.

Over time, as the business grew, the right people naturally entered my world. Vendors, fellow founders, partners, creatives. Those relationships happened through collaboration, not formal networking events. I’ve learned that the best “networking” comes from genuine curiosity and shared purpose, not forcing connections. The right relationships tend to form when your intention is clear and your curiosity is real.
