Today we’d like to introduce you to Bulut Gulen.
Hi Bulut, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
started my musical journey at the age of 9 with a children’s choir and later received piano training in Eskişehir. After that, studied at Ankara State Conservatory for nine years as a full-time boarding student, completing my middle school, high school, and undergraduate education there. then continued my studies at Istanbul University State Conservatory, where I completed my classical trombone education.
During these years, I received extensive training in orchestra, chamber music, and solo trombone performance, and performed with almost all major orchestras and ensembles in Turkey.
In 2007, I went to Berklee College of Music to pursue a Professional Music Diploma Degree. spent four years in Boston studying jazz trombone, arranging, and composition.
After returning to Istanbul in 2011 and began teaching and gave courses in trombone performance, arranging, and composition at Ankara State Conservatory and Bahçeşehir University. My first album, “Su,” was released by A.K Müzik, and I performed at many festivals and concerts with this album.
In 2017, returned to Boston and completed my master’s degree in Contemporary Improvisation at the New England Conservatory. With the onset of the pandemic and returned to Istanbul once again.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course, it hasn’t been easy — and it still isn’t. I’ve never been someone who gets what they want easily. I lived alone for many years, moved to different cities, and even to a different continent. Being able to share the same feelings and be part of the same music with people from different cultures has been incredibly valuable to me.
As long as I enjoy life, it doesn’t really matter whether things are easy or difficult. If you love what you do, the challenges and the ease of it make no difference — it all becomes part of the journey.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a musician — or you could say a man devoted to music, someone who lives for it and wants to share his own compositions with the world. Already have released two albums so far, and my third one will be coming out soon.
My only goal is to bring my music to people on a global scale — to carry my sound to different corners of the world. Throughout my career, I’ve performed at various festivals and venues in cities such as Newyork, Miami, Montreal, Boston (Beantown), London, Paris, Moscow, Helsinki, Bremen, Istanbul, and many more, collaborating on a wide range of projects.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
They can reach out to me — I’m always open to communication and collaboration.
