Today we’d like to introduce you to Adam Carr.
Adam, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Adam Carr hails from Cleveland Ohio and studied Acting at UCLA. His dreams of leaving college early to pursue a multi-cam sitcom were dashed when he graduated from UCLA’s School Of Theater, Film, and Television on time. As a child, Adam was in numerous productions at both Cain Park in Cleveland Heights, and Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland. He was also lucky enough to attend three glorious summers at the Interlochen Arts Academy where he was the recipient of the Maddy Award his last summer. Aside from being a hand model (It’s George Costanza’s fantasy but HIS reality) he also narrates audiobooks and spicier adult romances under the alias Nathan Langston. Alexa Kolb at Sony Games (Spiderman Games, The Last Of Us franchise) had this to say about Adam’s voice…
“Adam has a bright and fresh modern sound, which ranges from heartfelt gravitas to laugh out loud comedic timing.” Carpe Diem!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I feel like in today’s environment, and with the Entertainment Industry constantly evolving, the only smooth road is the one paved with money and nepo-opportunities. And I’m not knocking nepos, they have enough to deal with. The truth is, Hollywood very much mirrors blue collar America. We have the top 1% of the industry making a majority of the $ and dictating policy, while the 99% can barely pay their bills, pay rent, and afford an LA that has seemed to outsource the very commodity that put it on the map. But…that’s also the allure of Hollywood. It’s a crazy town, Bi-Polar adventure with constant mood swings that can elevate you in one second and annihilate you in the next. Verticals seemed to have given a lot of creatives a paycheck and time to breathe as we navigate a constantly evolving terrain. My father always says the best thing for an artistic person is a sleepless night. So yes, the struggles are real, but also a very much needed part of the process. Art dies in the excess of luxury. I love the struggle. The struggle is me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m very proud to say I’m a character actor in LA. I pride myself on being able to portray different types of characters, from all walks of life, especially the more disgusting and seedy ones (Hopefully not art imitating life?!). I love finding the buried layers to pull back in a performance. I love playing villains, they’re so fun, so flawed, so real. I’m most proud of my recent portrayal of “BABY MAN” in the latest VHS Halloween. It was such a physical, fun role. Complete with all the make up and prosthetics, I felt like I really disappeared into this giant man baby psycho. Catch it on Shudder and AMC +
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was very much the class clown, always enjoyed making everyone laugh. I always tried to make light of things, and wanted to be friends with everyone I could. I was definitely an artsy nerd type. Show Choir, Drama Club. My weeks were full of singing, dancing, acting. I did well enough in school, but loved being onstage. I was 11 when I got my first role in the high school musical. I had a solo in the Musical “Annie Get Your Gun” and I remember belting out those notes in a solo in the song “What Comes Naturally” and just feeling this clicking in of where I belonged.
