Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan.
Hi Jordan, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a sommelier, and first generation immigrant from Bulgaria. I arrived here in 1995, and became a citizen in 2001. My wife, Gabrielle, is a culinary school graduate born in Orange County.
The year was 2021 – it was January. We decided we could make the finest Ice Cream in the Coachella Valley, and focus that towards a wholesale program for the fine dining restaurants, resorts, country clubs and hotels in the area.
So we started with a 6ft plastic table, a banner we had made and a pop up canopy from Wal Mart. Our ice cream machine was smaller than most microwaves – it only churned about 5 ice creams every 30 minutes.
We started selling it at community events, farmers markets and even partnered with a local country club – all from our apartment! We had grown our menu, learned what worked and what didn’t – and in August of 2021 started building out a 1500ft2 office building for our manufacturing facility. Covid delays, money problems, permitting issues and every other problem under the sun could not stop us!
We opened our licensed manufacturing facility on Feb 2, 2022. Almost exactly a year after we launched our proof of concept.
June of that year, we struck our first long term lease deal for our premium kiosk concept – a custom built, chrome Ice Cream trailer that would serve as a small Ice Cream shop on property!
The trailer was ordered and delivered, our first real retail location was live! Next to the likes of Bottega Veneta, Tiffany’s, Saks 5th, Louis Vuitton and Gucci – this location changed our entire business model.
Over the next few years we secured more leases, opened two more locations – one at the Desert Hills Premium Outlets, one at Ontario Mills – and we are on track to open our fourth location at The Outlets at Orange December of 2025.
We’ve also expanded into wholesale, as originally planned – we’ve been making the room service Ice Cream for the local JW Marriott for years now, as well as working with Omni Rancho Las Palmas, Hilton Double Tree and many other smaller venues.
Our strategy is simple – create the richest, creamiest Ice Cream possible. To that end we work with a local dairy in Chino Hills – family owned for over 100 years – and create a mixture that is 18% milkfat, 15% egg yolk. Custard Ice Cream incorporates a minimum of 2% egg yolk, but we kick it up to 15% for maximum density. Our Ice Cream does not contain food coloring of any kind, we don’t have blue Ice Cream, sprinkles or Marachino Cherries. If we’re using chocolate it is Belgian, if we are using fruit it is Organic. Every single batch is made without compromise in a time consuming and difficult process. Yes, it takes longer. Yes, we think you’re worth it!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Absolutely not! Scaling a business like this has been incredibly difficult. We’ve got no rich investors, and no business loans. Everything has been built off blood, sweat and tears. Opening each location has had it’s unique struggles, along with the seasonality of it all – especially in Palm Desert. Staffing has also been very difficult- we’ve had a lot of turn over before locking in our current all star Ice Cream team!
But now most of that is behind us – we’ve got very detailed menu descriptions, sales manuals and very tight SOPs. It’s the only way to grow.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are the Coachella Valley’s ONLY Hand Crafted Frozen Custard. We do not compromise on any aspect of our production. From creating our own unique recipes, to thinking about how each flavor interacts with the overall menu – everything is attended to in detail. All of our small batches are painstakingly cooked, chilled, churned and Hand Packaged. We do not use food coloring, emulsifiers, artificial colors or dyes, preservatives or inferior products of any kind. The fruits we use are organic, our chocolate comes from Callebaut in Belgium. If you want the highest quality product in the category – Perfect Pint is the perfect choice. There is no equal.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
A mentor has been difficult to find, but most of my understanding has come from books like The 7 Habits of Highly Effective people, The E Myth and Cash Flow Quadrant, These books and many others like them have shown me what is possible for a small business, and what can be done to achieve the American Dream. As an immigrant form a formerly communist country, this is truly a dream come true. The American Dream is possible, no matter what! The dream is free – but the hustle is sold separately.
