Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaitlin Myers.
Hi Kaitlin, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
For me, design started as a quiet curiosity, something that sparked while watching home design shows late at night and imagining how I’d rework every space I saw. It wasn’t long before I realized this wasn’t just a hobby, it was my calling.
From the moment I took my first Principles of Design class, everything clicked. I fell in love with the details and the way a paint color can shift the mood of a room, or how the right light can make a space feel like a warm hug. I went on to manage high-end residential projects, learning from incredible mentors, working alongside a local Orange County designer, and soaking in the world of craftsmanship at Restoration Hardware. Eventually, I joined a leading Southern California design firm, where I grew quickly and really sharpened my creative voice.
But somewhere along the way, I realized something was missing. The homes were beautiful, but the process often left families feeling stressed and disconnected. I wanted to change that. That’s when I decided to start Myers Interiors, to bring warmth, structure, and a sense of ease to the design journey.
Today, I’m creating homes that feel timeless, layered, and full of heart. Every project is a collaboration, a blend of my client’s story and my design lens. It’s not just about creating a space that looks beautiful, but one that feels like them.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I started out working for a local designer, learning the ropes and soaking in everything I could… and then the world stopped. When COVID hit, her business slowed, and I was laid off. Like so many others, I found myself in this strange limbo, scrolling job boards, waiting for the world to reopen, trying to figure out what was next.
After a few uncertain months, I got lucky. I was connected with an up-and-coming designer who took me on as her design assistant. I threw myself into the work, learned fast, and within a few years, I had grown into the role of senior designer. It felt like everything was finally falling into place — until it wasn’t. By the end of 2023, a week before my wedding, just one day after saying goodbye to my future father-in-law, I was laid off again. That same day, my husband was moving us into our new apartment.
A few months later, I found a new opportunity as an in-house designer for a builder. Not long after that, I found out I was pregnant with my first child — a dream come true. I went on maternity leave, ready to step into this next chapter… and when it came time to return, I was laid off for the third time.
When I started searching for jobs again, nothing felt right. It wasn’t burnout, it was clarity. I realized I wasn’t meant to find another job. I was meant to build something of my own.
So I started Myers Interiors, and for the first time, I bet on myself. No one could lay me off this time. And that freedom, that decision to trust myself, was the best design I’ve ever made.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m the founder and principal designer of Myers Interiors, a full-service interior design studio based in Orange County. I specialize in creating timeless, layered spaces that feel both luxurious and deeply livable. My work blends classic foundations with organic textures that are just as beautiful as they are comfortable to live in.
I’m known for my warm, approachable process. I love bringing clarity and structure to what can sometimes feel like an overwhelming journey. My clients trust me to translate their lives, their routines, memories, and hopes into spaces that truly reflect who they are. It’s not about following trends; it’s about creating a feeling.
What I’m most proud of isn’t just the finished spaces, it’s the relationships that form along the way. Watching a family walk into their new home and see themselves in it for the first time never gets old.
What sets me apart is the heart I bring to each project. I’ve been through the highs and lows of this industry, and I know what it’s like to rebuild from scratch. That experience taught me empathy, resilience, and the importance of making people feel taken care of. I want every client to feel like their home was designed with them, not just for them.
Because at the end of the day, good design isn’t just about how it looks, it’s about how it makes you feel. And that’s the part I’ll never stop chasing.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that timing is everything, and sometimes, the detours are the point.
When I was laid off (more than once), I used to think those moments were setbacks. But looking back, they were redirections. Each one pushed me closer to what I was meant to do — to build something of my own. I learned that even when things feel uncertain, you can still trust yourself. You can start over.
This industry has taught me patience, resilience, and faith in the bigger picture. You might not always see the full design at first, just pieces, scattered and unfinished, but eventually it comes together. It always does.
And now, every time I walk into a finished home with my clients and see their faces light up, I’m reminded that the hardest seasons often build the most beautiful foundations.
