Meet Terrance Hunter of steak + eggs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Terrance Hunter.

Hi Terrance, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always said I’m a west coast kid stuck in a midwest boys body. I was actually born here in Riverside, CA where my mother lived while my dad was in the navy. Once he finished up there, I was raised along with the rest of my siblings in Indianapolis, IN, I’m come from a really big midwest family so growing up I’ve always been around a ton of cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, etc. I’m a family person at heart even though I may not show it all the time.

Growing up, I was always a creative kid. My mom would tell you that I use to write my own short stories, make board games, draw, read book after book and other things. It was a way for me to foster and grow my creativity, so it’s no surprise that in my adult career I’ve been most drawn to and focus on the creative aspects of marketing.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been challenge and obstacles along the way. One of the first truly big ones happened when I first went off to college after graduating high school. I got accepted into my dream school at the time (Michigan State, GO GREEN) and funny enough I was actually a zoology major when I first started.

College was, and still is, expensive especially when going out of state and I didn’t come from a family that had loads and loads of money. My parents made it work and we rarely went without but like most families, college wasn’t affordable.

Around the first semester of my junior year ultimately I had to leave school because my parents simply couldn’t afford it anymore. It was a huge crush to my spirit and for about five years after that I really just worked jobs here and there, I had really let go of the idea that I’d be able to get a degree.

Thankfully, I took a leap and relocated to Minneapolis, MN and reenrolled and was ultimately able to get my B.S. in Marketing in 2013. Being a first generation graduate, that was HUGE for me and my family. For people that are in this same situation – don’t ever get discouraged or give up. I got my degree at 27-years-old. It’s never too late to go back.

Now at 39-years-old, I’m also an MBA holder as well. It truly does motivate you!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My mission with steak+eggs is to empower the boldest brands to achieve their highest potential. I strongly believe that the most innovative work comes from collaboration and pushing the boundaries of what’s been done in the past.

I started this company with the intention of supporting diverse businesses and business owners who were creating amazing products and services. It’s a huge passion of mine as I strongly believe that we truly need to support the community around us.

What makes you happy?
I find happiness in a lot of different things. Right now, I’ve really grown to have a strong passion for hiking and not just that stereotypical LA hike up Runyon. I really love to go to the outskirts and discover new places. It’s a way for me to get my alone time to slow down, decompress and also a way to work on finding inspiration and creativity. I’m a nerd so I listen to movie scores while hiking. I don’t know, it just helps to visualize things in your head.

Another recent hobby I’ve taken on his learning how to draw. I’ve always been a comic-book nerd growing up – I can and will talk your ear off about X-Men for hours – so I’ve always wanted to create my own graphic novel at some point. I’ve been working with an illustrator since the beginning of this year to teach myself how to draw and it’s been so much fun and a great way to find happiness.
