Conversations with Rana Mohiuddin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rana Mohiuddin.

Rana, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In the late 90’s, I had started a small business doing henna at The Lab in Costa Mesa. While I enjoyed the freedom of owning a small business, I wanted to do something that was creative but not as time-consuming. I decided to take a floral design class at my local community college and invited my brother to take the class, as well. A few years later, we started A Seed and Stone. Our name represents the balance between growth and stability. Inspired by nature, we craft floral designs that start from a simple seed, a symbol of potential, and are built on a foundation as strong as stone.

We started slowly, with a Valentine’s Day event at the Lab in 2005 and then proceeded to grow from there. We initially started with family events and weddings and then started transitioning to providing floral design and event design for large organizations. We have created beauty using florals at local pop-ups to creating intricate large-scale installations all over Southern California. Our recent projects include setting up holiday decorations at local auto showrooms and winter galas.

We’re excited for a busy year ahead with more events, rentals, and hosting our own pop-ups soon!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning and scaling a small business for over 20 years has not always been smooth sailing. We have definitely encountered some bumps along the way. One of our biggest obstacles has been storing our inventory. In this business, it is very easy to purchase items that our clients might need. We currently offer furniture and product rentals as part of our offerings and finding spaces to store our inventory has proven challenging over the years. Last year, we finally caved and found a wonderful warehouse unit. Scaling from a small-scale storage unit to a large warehouse has been one of the most challenging endeavors we have encountered to-date. Not only are we managing our business and events, but now we also have to manage a whole entire physical space. It is very exciting, but also daunting.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
With 20 years of experience, A Seed and Stone has cultivated a reputation for excellence in both classic and contemporary floral artistry. Whether designing an intimate bouquet, a lavish large-scale installation, or sophisticated corporate arrangements, we approach each project with the same dedication to quality and personal attention. Our team combines artistic vision with expert technique, sourcing the freshest blooms and incorporating seasonal trends to create unforgettable floral experiences.
As a locally owned and operated business, community is at the heart of what we do. We have built lasting relationships with our clients, many of whom have trusted us for generations of events. Our longevity in the industry speaks to our commitment to excellence, consistency, and innovation in floral design.
