Today we’d like to introduce you to Blair Glenn.
Hi Blair, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Started out as a rock climber. Moved to Yosemite in 1972 and lived in a tent for a year. Knew I needed an outdoor career and tree work was a perfect fit. Working with ropes, climbing, difficult jobs and situations. Started my business in 1973. Met a mentor in 1975 who directed me to proper procedures. Learned the hard way and finally an Arborist Certification program was established in 1989. I was on of the earliest Certified Arborists in 1990. Been climbing trees for 52 years now and I’m still hard at it. Started an educational YouTube channel in 2007 and I’m currently proud of over 26 million channel views and over 1500 videos!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Tree work is never smooth. One of the most dangerous careers. Working with employees who you have to trust with your life to manage the ropes for hazardous removals and big tree trim jobs. Using a chainsaw in a tree requires a lot of self confidence and skill.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Tree work is a skill but also an art. Seeing the needs of a client as well as anticipating what mistakes you can make. Take off too much and the client may look straight into the neighbors windows. I’m proud of my professionalism in the industry and I have clients that wave stuck with me for over 40 years. I have trained dozens of tree workers who have gone on to start their own businesses.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I love working with the wood I process from the trees we remove. I have a big woodshop on my mountain property and I also own a sawmill. I find great satisfaction in building a piece of furniture from a tree I was involved in removing. I love working with my hands to build wooden objects.
